Going setting the folks up for internet, probably go with eircom cos the folks are in the middle of nowhere. I want to hook it up so there's no gaudy wires running from the phone socket to the compuer (two rooms over), what would be a simple, bare bones, transmitter/receiver setup? WOuld i need to put the transmitter before or after the modem? Actual product links greatly appreciated.

I use this D-Link DI-524 802.11g Wireless Broadband Router With Built-in 4-Port Switch, hooked up after the modem (so you would hook up ISP modem to telephone line then directly connect Wireless router to modem), after initial setup, works like a charm, have 3 wireless pcs and 1 wired pc connected to it. Setup the mac address filtering and the encryption handily enough. Bought it in PC-World with a PCI adaptor for just over €100 (I think)

I think some providers give a wireless modem with your broadband connection, then all you would need is a wireless card for the pc/laptop, itdirect in town usually have cheap ones of those. So even ring eircom and ask about the modem they supply!

For some reason when you buy a wireless modem-router in Argos they give you a free pcmcia wireless card or usb wireless dongle.
I got a Belkin one there for €99 with free wireless adapters for laptop and PC.

oh yeah i heard that. hows it been workin for you?

Deadly!!
I originally bought a cable & wireless one which dropped the connection every 5 seconds. Serious piece of shit.
Swapped it for the Belkin one - no problems at all so far. Really easy to set up and the standard security features are dead easy to set up.
