great thread.

pearl jam's ten & vitalogy got me into guitar music in a big way. still love both those albums.
mbv's loveless is another seminal one for me. got me into shoegaze and then ambient/post-rock/drone stuff. it was the soundtrack to my life for a few years.
as for electronic music, probably boards of canada - music has the right to children. that and all the dodgy house music i had to listen to growing up.

edit: that dischord sampler thing is the job as well...nation of ulysees, the make up, faraquet...daycint. and of course, daydream nation oddly enough i wasnt mad on it at first hearing it, but, grew to love it...
