200% Dynamite got me into reggae. Not really sure why I bought it, wasn't arsed with reggae before I bought it, but loved it after.

lawrence's along the wire and the night will last forever ep's got me into minimal techno in a big way. not liking his new stuff half as much unfortunately

Great thread idea.

First album I bought on CD, was my favourite for years and years and years:

This changed my idea of what music could be:

This got me into soul/funk (can't remember how I ended up buying it):

This got me into Arthur Russell, and ultimately (in combination with the funk obsession started above) into disco:

This introduced me to sampling.

This shoved me on the path to jazz, French stuff and the realisation that breaking up your group at the height of its powers was the right thing to do.

This sent me on the one-tracker path and made me love records that others depised or discarded

This told me that noise doesn't have to annoy

Started off an obsession with one band and got me checking out Can etc.

Actually this is more of a "life changing" album. Without wanting to sound OTT. This was the one album that led to me to EVERYTHING I listen to today without any exceptions.

More seminal albums would be..

This album got me into hardcore and screamo:

This was actually the one album that got me into noise:

And being given a tape of this led me to my love of screamo:

And then it was this that made me realise that "old" music can be amazing too:

What more can I say, what more can I say
The only thing I could think of was the Flex Your Head comp. Although that was bought because Minor Threat were on it,unfortunately most of the bands on FYH didn't have other records so I had to buy other records on Dischord instead. That box set was probably the last record I bought on dischord.

This was the last hip hop album i ever bought ('cept for the sol0 offshoots that followed, kudos to Liquid Swords, Return To 36 Chambers, Tical and Strictly Built...). I didn't think there could ever be a better rap album ever released. I could've been right...

These 2 came along at the same time, just at the height of my Soundgarden/Tool/Alice In Chains years. These made me realise that you didn't have to be able to sing like Chris/Maynard/Layne to be in a band.

still both amazing, still both played on many many late night van journeys

I'll never forget the first time i heard this. My Mom's vinyl copy i believe. She couldn't believe i actually liked it. I can't believe how much it influenced/influences me

I remember thinking "If the b-sides are also deadly, then I'll have to buy the album." They were... no turning back.
