I'm kinda tempted to buy that book, which is the recommended option for losers like ourselves. The question is, would it be worth our while? I suppose it might, given the cost of CD duplication and whatnot...it's an easy way to sell your music without the overhead. Making people aware of it would be crucial. AND does anyone around here (this being representative of any potential customers) actually buy stuff from this at present?

You can't buy from it in this country yet (unless you have a credit card billing address that is in one of the countries where the service is available).
The iTunes Ireland store opens in October/November I think.
