Irish Anti-War Movement National Demonstration
STOP THIS WAR - US MILITARY OUT OF SHANNON
SATURDAY MARCH 29TH 3PM, PARNELL SQUARE, DUBLIN.

Despite the huge demonstrations of February 15th around the world Bush and Blair have gone ahead and begun their attack on Iraq. The allied forces have unleashed a ferocious assault which is certain to claim the lives ofr thousands of innocent Iraqis. However the global anti war movement has responded magnificently organising massive demonstrations on Day X and last Thursday to send a clear message to Bush and Blair that those oppossed to war will not rest until this slaughter is halted. Here in Ireland we saw tens of thousands stop work, walk out of their schools and clolleges and join protests in their towns and cities on Day X. Last weekend saw over 10,000 people take to the streets of Dublin and thousands also marched in Cork, Belfast Galway,Sligo, Waterford, Tullamore, Limerick and Shannon.

Now this Saturday in Dublin the IAWM and the NGO Peace Alliance backed by SIPTU, the Labour Party, Green Party, Sinn Fein, Socialist Party, the Islamic Community, Socialist Workers Party have called another National demonstration. We want to see tens of thousands take to the streets against this war and to protest the disgraceful collaboration of our government with this barbaric war.

We call on all anti war activists and groups around the country to mobilise for this protest to ensure that this government is brought to account for its failure to listen to the voices of the people and end its support for a war on the people of Iraq. Please organise now to ensure everyone you can get word to joins this vital protest.

Richard Boyd Barrett, Chair Irish Anti War Movement.

Anti-war protest planned for Saturday

March 27, 2003

(20:21) The Anti-War movement has appealed to everyone who opposes the war to take to the streets of the Dublin this Saturday for a second national demonstration.

Representatives from the Conference of Religious in Ireland, non-government organisations and the main Muslim groups here joined forces in Dublin this afternoon to announce details of the march.

SIPTU's Vice President Jack O'Connor said the union was backing Saturday's march in protest at Ireland's role in an illegal and unnecessary conflict.

Richard Boyd Barrett of the Anti-War Movement said they were calling on people to join the protest to demand that the Government end the use of Shannon Airport by US troops.

He said the Anti-War movement would make life 'unbearable' for the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern and his Government until this was achieved.

CORI, the group representing Catholic religious orders, has called on the Government to immediately halt the usage of Shannon for the purpose of aiding the war effort.

US plans massive reinforcement of troops in Iraq

March 28, 2003

(03:13) American military commanders are planning a massive and rapid re-inforcement of troops who are fighting the war in Iraq.

The United States is to send up to 120,000 more troops to the Gulf in the next few weeks, but it has insisted they're part of a long planned build-up.

At present there are about 90,000 ground forces in Iraq.
