Any of you pricks lost a toenail before? My big one is on the way out for sure. It's always been a bit haggard since the marathon years ago, but I dropped a few kgs on it a month ago and it's now reaching endgame.

10 pints over how long? thats a lot of calories, but if it's pub beer and you are talking 6-7hrs than is more like ramping up your calorie/carbs pre marathon than drinking.

Boozing and running aren't mutually exclusive
People drink beer during marathons
Lots of running clubs have a drinking element
Some running clubs have a drinking requirement
Some races/events have a drinking requirement

It's a very broad church

I suspect old Joe needed to let people know that he was still him, he hadn't gone soft, and even though he was doing this 'healthy thing, he hadn't gone full douchebag
