So, I need to replace my Shure M4-77 stylus, but the original product was discontinued in 2018 by Shure.

I watched this video where the guy is raving about this Japanese brand Jico. He disparages a range of M4-77 replacement stylii in the video, but he doesn't say what those "rubbish" brands are. He mentions Tonar in Germany. I just searched their website and if they were doing such a stylus, they don't appear to have it now.

So, I thought I'd ask thumped. Anyone have a similar dilemma, or know of any Irish or European electronic/music stores that may stock these M4-77 replacements. Or, anyone that can enlighten one on brands/types to be avoided.

Cheers.

I've just been through a deep dive of needle research (i.e. nerding out over things way above my budget) over the last few months coincidentally. The consensus for replacing Shure styli does appear to be the Jico- they only do the stylus, not the cartridge although I believe they will be doing the cartridges later in the year. From what I can tell they are pretty much the only game in town for good M4-77 replacements.
Tonar appear to be made by Jico, just repackaged and rebranded. Here is a typical rabbit hole thread you can lose a day to https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/the-world-of-aftermarket-styli.744628/

For various reasons I ended up ditching Shure and I plumped for two of these (mainly because I needed something suitable for Djing but also wanted an elliptical tip)
AT-XP7

Set them up yesterday and they sound bloody amazing. I also have one of this relatively new range from Audio Technica needles AT-VM95E

Based on the same cartridge over time you can upgrade the tips from the basic one (which still sounds great) up to fancy shibata stylii like this AT-VMN95SH

Anyways, maybe not directly answering your question but tl:dr can vouch for he Audio Technica options if yer reconsidering the Shures at all

Cheers lads, I don't have the spondulies to re-up at the minute, so it'll have to be just the replacement stylus for now.

I guess this is best with five europe postage to IRE. The Jico 192-44-7.
