Hey everyone,

This night will be a concoction of local and international underground acts, ready to kick it out in the new venue below Thomas Reads on Dame St. Last time BILGE PUMP played here it was in a strip club!! Unless the lads bring there own poles it won’t be happening this time but instead it’ll just straight up rock music.

In YXIMALLO we have a real treat; a bastion in the underground Japanese scene, now resident in Swords, NAO was down in Max Joy one night and asked to play. We where only too delighted and couldn’t think of anyone better for him to play with than THREAD PULLS, now a duo TP are really on a vein of form, knocking out real quality of late, anyone who was at the recent Fuck Buttons show will testify to that.

Filling in the gaps and keeping the punters on the floor till late will be Max Joy residents Darren and Micí.

BILGE PUMP
Related bands: Polaris, Red Monkey, Propulsion Family Picnic, HiM, Snail Racing, Mask, Diesel Versus Steam, Baby Harp Seal, Quack Quack.
Releases on Gringo Records, Jonson Family, Troubleman Unlimited, Run of the Mill
"Savagely poignant illustrations of everyday life backed by entirely self-destructive lead heavy bass lines and barking raw guitar riffs"
"Brace yourselves, lock up the liquor cabinet, and throw logic out the window, because Bilge Pump is comin' atcha with a hardcore ear-assaulting noisy punk rock free-for-all. Indecipherable shouted vocals -- sort of like David Yow from The Jesus Lizard singing through a sweaty Army vest -- a rambling, almost free-jazz bass line, shrieking guitars, and racing apoplectic drums come together for just over a minute of cacophony. Fierce!"
Jeanne Acceturo
"Leeds-based Bilge Pump may be art-punks at heart -- they certainly follow the template, unleashing abrasive hooks, awkward time signatures and speak-sing vocals on already imposing fragments of songs -- but underneath the cool anger is a heaviness that hints at other, earlier messes made by bad-boy psych bands like Blue Cheer or Funkadelic at their most fuzzed-out and primal."
Splendid Magazine
"As you might expect from a bunch of maniacal Northerners paying homage at the altar of Mark E Smith whilst clutching a sackful of old Slint, Rodan and June of 44 records, Bilge Pump play raucous fractured rock punctuated with obtuse, surreal and biting lyrics. "
Tangents
"Bilge Pump rule because they are a funky funky band. Their rhythms roll and gallop and are unstoppable and they make you dance. By adding an almost retro sounding swing to their step they rise above the hard edged inhuman math of their supposed contemporaries and Mark Simms' engineering on this kids you that you're missing the best gig ever heard."

YXIMALLOO
Yximalloo is Naofumi Ishimaru alone, but he drafts a loose ensemble of players, including the core of Shigeo Ootake and Takashi Korgo (who appear on all discs), as collaborator-executors. All of his releases are on his own label, and none have seen a distributor yet (which is why you very rarely find his CDs in stores). Mr. Ishimaru recently visited Other Music, and left us with (_very_ limited!) quantities of his entire catalog. Ishimaru works like a Japanese Jandek without the angst, like the Boredoms minus the bombast. Spiritual kin to early artpunk and especially the LAFMS, he revels in mock-ethnic music and nonsense. Lo-fi, sweet and primitive, he uses ancient drum machines, hand percussion, and electronic droplet noises, sometimes set to melodies gathered from some imaginary South Sea island where the traditional instrument is seemingly an old '80s synth. Handclaps and chanting abound, but Yximalloo has also been painted as a Japanese Half Japanese -- Jad Fair himself has collaborated with Ishimaru and draws the covers for every release here (gorgeous dayglo and glow-in-the-dark covers in iridescent plastic cases). Recording since 1973 (!), he still has but one Yximalloo release in the States, last year's retrospective LP on Old Gold. Most CDs are around 70 minutes and usually contain over 30 tracks.

Individual reviews for each of the 9 CD from Other Music. All 9 ended up in the WFMU Top 20 at the same!!!

THREAD PULLS
Thread Pulls current releases are the mini-album series "Fluorescent 1, 2 and 3" on their label Ninepoint Records. Limited to 100 copies, each package contains an individual artwork by Garrett Phelan. Tracks from Fluorescent 3 were remixed/remade by David Donohoe and released in June as the album-length "Moonless and Crowblack". There are only 50 hand-made copies of this release, which comes in custom made packaging with 2 large-format lithographic posters.

All of these releases are available to purchase and for free download from www.9-pt.com

Stripped back to a duo in January 2007 and never known to stick to one style, Thread pulls have made a complete u-turn sound-wise discarding their customary off-kilter motoriks and feedback drones for a new upbeat trip. Shows in Ireland and Europe are planned for 2008 as well as a brand new 7-inch record.

Press
'It's our first taste of The Noise of the weekend... Thread Pulls tree-surgeon Sonic Youth and night-time dockyard menace is a harsh contrast to the lush, impending spring outside.' - Playlouder (review of performance at Vincent Gallo ATP)

'Og der var strøm på dublindrengene, da de med The Fall-agtigt postpunk og Tortoise-kraut henrykkede det nu både stående og henslængte publikum.' - Geiger (Hurra Festival review)

'An exquisitely loud percussion and screaming guitar explosion, the post punk stomp that they began with touches base with bands like Liars, a primal funk hidden under sheet metal.' - Brainwashed (Bardo Pond review)

'fans of music that is neither soft nor safe also may find something to treasure here' - Irish Times

'To use lazy journalistic shorthand, Thread Pulls are Big Black covering This Heat. Does it get any better than that?' - Wirewool blog 2

'built from feedback, dissonant chops and reedy vocals that put one in mind of Thurston Moore traversing a tar pit,' - The Wire

'their minimalist aesthetic really shines through' - Foxy Digitalis

'ostinato pulse of snarling guitars and noises' - Stylus magazine
