Record Stores in Limerick & Belfast (1 Viewer)

Howdy, I'm trying to track down indie record stores in Limerick, and google is not being too helpfull. Also looking for ones in Belfast- it seems that every one I find up there has recently closed down! Are there any left??

I'm afraid there's no record stores at all in Limerick beyond the chain stores like HMV. Golden Discs have a few records but it's all woefully bad dance LP's and there's only about 10 of them..

Well to be fair there hasn't been a store in Limerick since about 2003 when Black Spot closed and that was on the way out well before that too.. Can't really blame the internet for that one.

Belfast isn't great for record shops either. Backbeat and HMV are probably the best.

Doc was in Plugd last friday as he was down for the Cork City match.
I got spooked when he walked in.

I wish Empire would take themselves seriously as an independent store. They're basically diet HMV at the moment and consequently there's never anyone in there. If they made some effort like plugd in cork to provide a qualitatively different service to the big chains they might get a few customers. I doubt they have the interest though. Reckon it'll be closed before long.

Yup. Just another electronics store with a few instruments downstairs now though. FSV is a better music store. Neither sell CD's/records at all though.

I remember buying Peter Gabriel 4 in Savins. 1987. On the way to Lahinch for summer holidays. No record player in the house we were staying in.

was in there at christmas and it looked barren in there.

Yeah, they're just waiting for the building to be sold they're out of there. The guy in there owns the actual building so that's why it's not closed. I'd say the Ticketmaster sales are paying the wages and that's just keeping them going. When they close there'll not even be a place in the entire city to buy tickets.

But surely there is a demand in somewhere like Belfast - and probably Limerick - for a decent indie shop? There used to be some really good shops in Belfast years ago, if I remember rightly. Or is everyone just going on the internet and getting their CDs and records cheap?

yeah Doctor Roberts was a good little shop back in the day wasn't it? Picked up some sweet Palace 7"'s there if memory serves and I remember giving Mogwai directions to it back in '98 and then seeing them in there putting Young Team at the front of the "m" section!
