Real Life Book Club (2 Viewers)

that's all done in work. I can't afford to quit :(

already did that

no time this time

Fair enough I suppose, but you could always just jot stuff down at work in the time you'd spend posting on Thumped. And I'm sure plenty of novels have been written during lunch breaks.

I mean, you don't have to write 50000 words in a month, how about only a couple of hundred words per day instead - like all the best writers. :)
I find this novel-in-a-month business quite ludicrous, but I may be missing the point.

I know I quoted you in my first post above, but a lot of this is aimed at myself as much as anyone.

whats everyones count to date? im only up to 15, i suspect my total for the year will be well down.

http://www.goodreads.com/challenges/2 this page puts my total for the year at 36 but I put it at only 33. one of my goodreads friends (the only one who seems to actually read any books) has set himself the challenge of reading 110 books in 2011. the fool. I'm going for 45.

I might actually use goodreads this year, I never pay attention to how many books I've read. I'd imagine about 100 or so this year as I did little else.

I'd definitely be up for an online bookclub too. How would that work though? Would have loved to do a real life one. If it gets going, I'd be up for joining when I get back in July.

I'm not averse to it but how would we do it online? I thought the auld pick a book then go for a pint after everyone has read it and talk about it then have another pint method would be good.

we could pick a book, read it and discuss it in here, or create a separate thread for it. that way the time limit wouldn't be quite as important, there would be no arrangement to be made and everyone could feel free to nerd out at more length than in the "what did you read last night thread". you could have a few cans while you were typing.

whats the story with this? Can you opt out if a book doesn't grab you? Or do you have to read everything?

I've never been in a book club but I always got the impression that they involve lowest-common-denominator type stuff (books that Richard and Judy would recommend).

forgive my ignorance.

Maybe we should all suggest a book on this thread then vote on it? Unless we just designate one book picker per round?
I suppose the books should be all ones each person can easily source so nowt too obscure?
