vernon god little is overrated trash. his follow up is even worse. dbc pierre disguises the fact that he can't write by adopting these outlandish first person narratives and self consciously bizzare storylines. he's a sham. i read kafka's metamorphasis in work. it's fucking deadly.

Hoh! Stay away from Chuck Palahniuk then.

Ludmila's Broken English was an interesting but uneven affair.
Political satire is hard to pull off.

I LOVE Chuck Palahniuk. Invisible Monsters is a modern day Valley of The Dolls...it's trashy and nasty and hilariously funny.. [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Monsters[/ame]
Choke ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choke_(novel)) is also deadly.

Read some background on his novel 'Lullaby'...

In 1999, Fred Palahniuk, Chuck's father, began dating an Idaho woman named Donna Fontaine. Donna had recently put her ex-boyfriend, Dale Shackleford, in prison for sexual abuse, and Shackleford had vowed to kill Fontaine as soon as he was released from prison. After his release, Shackleford followed Fred Palahniuk and Fontaine home from a date to her apartment in Kendrick, Idaho. After shooting Fred Palahniuk in the abdomen and Fontaine in the back of the neck, Shackleford left them to die, though he allegedly returned to the scene multiple times to attempt to start a fire large enough to destroy the evidence.
After Shackleford's arrest, Chuck Palahniuk was asked to be part of the decision as to whether or not Shackleford would receive the death sentence. Palahniuk has worked in a hospital and as a crime reporter, but nevertheless struggled with where he stood on capital punishment. Over the next few months, he began working on Lullaby. According to him, it was a way to cope with the decision he had to make regarding Shackleford's death. In the spring of 2001, Shackleford was found guilty for two counts of murder in the first degree. A month after Palahniuk finished Lullaby, Shackleford was sentenced to death. Palahniuk wrote the Court and asked to witness the execution.
