me and another guy got kicked out from Oi Polloi's gig in galway yesterday for damn crowd surfing. since i'm new to irish punk scene and where i come from, crowd surfing and hard moshing is ok, i'm starting to get the feeling, that punkrock in ireland is not very PUNK afterall.
and when the fuckin security fatass was dragging the other guy by the neck, strangling him, i hardly saw anyone trying to stop him. punks are not very punk here too, i guess...
for me punk is about freedom, abolishment of stupid unnecessary rules, personal responsibility and perhaps the most important - TOGETHERNESS.

hope someday we will be able to dance the way we want

respect to Oi Polloi and the guy that gave me a lift up the air that was followed by one of the best surfs i've ever did:). dude, if you're reading this, write me an e-mail, we'll go for a pint sometime.

There will be no bouncers at their Dublin gig on Tuesday!
Lower Deck is the venue

btw moshing is not anything to do with Punk Rock.....
I would say Pogoing is Punk Rock.

and if you are new to the Irish Punk scene you would not have passed comment after been at one venue.

We have 3257 venues.

there's a fun line between having fun and being an annoying asshole. but either way, there's nothing punk about galway :)

I'm at work and i'm not supposed to be using the internet so i dont have time to go into all the detail but....
Sally Longs is a bar not a squat/open air venue where everyting goes. It is quiet small and there is a very hard concrete floor in the "dancing" area. The bar have been pretty cool over the years in letting all types of bands do whatever they want there even though it is a city centre bar which gets alot of regular customers who are not into the whole punk stuff.
Crowdsurfing is dangerous to others around you especially in a small bar where there is glass everywhere. I've seen blood on the floor after alot of gigs there ....
The guy who got kicked out last night was a tall atheletic chap who was dancing pretty wild and he was warned by the security guard to calm down. About 5 seconds after the warning he charged through the crowd and proceeded to lift a guy up to go crowdsurfing. The security guard grabbed him and tried to escort him out. There was a bit of a struggle and he had to put his arm around his neck and drag him out. Other people where trying to pull the "dancer" from the security guard. Anyway he was kicked out and so was another guy who was trying to stop the security from doing his job after he called him nazi.

Thats the way i saw it happen anyway. Please correct me if i missed something.

i'm the guy that was being lifted by 'athletic chap'.
damien, yes, there is a line. i don't think it was crossed yesterday, though. all i saw was lots of smiling faces and after the first surf kids were getting kinda opposite to being annoyed. i mean after i got down, it felt like there was an explosion of energy in the crowd, even some older guys got into the pit. felt good to most, sorry if you got annoyed. and, your sarcasm isn't tasty at all. and not funny.
daniel, i see you're the organizer. i can see your points now, after i got cooled down a bit. anyway, i got my oppinion on that - you just let people be responsible for themselves - you know what you're doing, when you go to the pit or go crowdsurfing or whatever. and if you get hurt - you don't go suing the bar or the organizers. it used to work in where i'm from, either in a bar or a club or whatever, but, on the other hand, mostly because security there are guys from the scene and the gigs are held mostly at diy clubs (i understand the difference, this might not work so well in a pub like sally longs). and the main reason i got so pissed off was because at first i couldn't understand why that guy is being so rudely dragged out, and then, after i got outside with them, i called the security guy a focking nazi 'cause he was being all cocky and talking as some focking pig: "because i said so;get the fuck out". it's not because of what he did, it's because of how he did that. seems like he'd make a great cop:). ok, so i understand everything, no hard feelings in me.
janer, i passed that comment 'cause unfortunately i'm a hotshit and it takes a while for me to settle down and calmly rethink everything.

so also now i'm thinking - has there ever been a diy club/squat in galway? why there's none now? is one not needed or not possible? i think it is needed. i see lots of kids in the street that look like mtv-punks, you know, nirvana, metallica t-shirts and so on. they don't have any clue that there's punk and fun and all subculture that you don't see on tv, but if there was some kind of d.i.y. club, one that could hold not only gigs, but workshops, debates, serve as a indy art gallery, i think it would attract them. you need to build the scene, it won't get built just by itself. and, daniel, OLD PUNKS DIE. sorry to tell you that. everybody does. that's why we have to spread the word and get the kids to turn off their tv's. that's the job OLD PUNKS have to do before they die. hah.

good night

Jesus, thats really condescending! I think it might be just funny. You sir are a moron.

ri tarado what are you on about?! do you think none of the punks in galway - who have been active for years - have never gone "hmm a deadly diy venue? that would be nice!", that maybe once they might've actually stumbled upon squatted venues elsewhere?! such an odd thing to say:confused::confused:

ri tarado i agree with much of what you are saying but Sally Longs is not a proper "punk" venue and never will be. Until recently i ran gigs in another venue called Richardsons which was alot different and better but that has been taken over by someone who is apparently a convicted paedophile. I will not deal with that person. I do see the problems with Sally Longs and i am going to start to look for a more suitable venue for some of the shows. Until then please take it easy at the shows. If you want to come to the Oi Polloi show in Dublin get in touch as there is room in the van. I think they have had similiar problems with dancing at some Dublin shows so we can discuss it in more detail..

The next show in Sallys is Coldwar and 3 thrash metal support bands. Headbanging only please.

demonica, it's hard to answer to you, because i don't understand meaning of condenscending. anyway, it's pretty possible that i'm a moron.
spuded, i'm not very good in expressing my thoughts in english, it wasn't supposed to sound like blaming somebody that they are not doing anything. i was just asking: maybe there was one, but it showed up that it wasn't needed - like not getting enough people? or not possible because of some legal issues? i'm just wondering, 'cause i think it would be popular. and it was funny to me that organizer daniel, who is quiet old:) (at least comparing to me) is wearing a t-shirt "OLD PUNKS NEVER DIE". very optimistic:)). but they do die eventually and if there are no active young generation, scene dies:). and i didn't see much really young kids in the gig. maybe it's over 18 only here too? that's bad for main town's punckrock venue.
ssmcmullan, i have never ever heard in lithuanian scene of someone to get killed or badly hurt due to surfing or diving. bruises, little cuts, a black eye - yeah, but you get the same when pogoing too, it's not a big deal.
janer, so you're saying: punkrock - pogo only, hardcore - moshing, ska - skanking, reaggea - smoking, thrash - headbanging, shitcore - shitting etc:)? . in first post i said punk just generaly, not "punkrock the music". i'm not that kinda shithead that would start moshing in reaggea gig, but if it's punkrock gig, the band is powerfull, and kids around are dancing hard anyway, so whats wrong with a little moshpit:)? don't get people in against their will and it will be fun for everyone. i don't feel the line between punk and hardcore actually.
daniel, thanks for your offer, but i am not able to come. thanks, though.

Well ur mid 20's Daniel.

Ok Ri Tarado your last reply is good, pity yu can't make the Dublin gig, you could've moshed all you wanted at the venue where Oi Polloi are playing without fear of being thrown out :D
