IN an effort to target paedophiles, Cork County Council is drawing up new bylaws which will make it an offence to take photos of children in playgrounds.
The bylaws, which are going public consultation and will initially be implemented in north Cork, contain 34 stipulations, one of which outlines who can use cameras or video equipment in public playgrounds.
The draft document states "no person, unless they are a member of a family, shall operate, or use a camera, camera phone, video or any other media device in a playground without authorisation from the council".
However, the local authority itself reserves the right to install video cameras in order to monitor anti-social behaviour.
The gardaí will also be permitted to use recording devices if they so require.
Fairly sure most kiddy fiddlers are or have at some point been "a member of a family". Also fairly sure it's easier for them to go pick up some kids clothes catalogues.
