ooh contraversial.

i was a little dissapointed the first whipping boy album didn't end up in there. its fantastically dark.
I used to love Valentine 69... even though it appeared to be about some driver picking up some girl and killing her.
They once played an acoustic version of it live on an old Radio Ireland afternoon show and the vocals were very clear. The tension in the studio was quite amusing. When wrapping up, the presenter told Feargal not to do anything he would regret on the drive home...

These would be on my list anyway. Not familiar with the rest.

More

Stars of Heaven - Speak Slowly
Fatima Mansions - Lost In The Former West
Fatima Mansions - Viva Dead Ponies
Microdisney - The Clock Comes Down The Stairs

Jim - the LP is Crooked Mile. It's good but not their best.
Cheers - great song all the same.

Viva Dead Ponies is great. Also liked the mini album Berties Brochures.

An album with this on it 10 times would be better than The Thrills.

Also do the High Llamas count as Irish? Or Stump?

Never liked Heartworm. The spoken bits of We Don't Need Nobody Else make me laugh. Which, I presume, was not the intention when they recorded it.

If you were to be really precise about a list like this and you're including Van Morrison and Thin Lizzy, they'd have about 10 albums in there between them. Anyway.

I loved it/them til those fucking comeback gigs they did. They were worse than shite and I haven't been able to listen to them the same way ever since.

1. Heartworm' by Whipping Boy. [/B]

I'd argue the toss for the albums above. The rest, not so (or in some cases I haven't heard them).

Bands I'd have included; Power of Dreams, Cry Before Dawn, Fountainhead's second album. Also, theres this thing that lists like this can mostly have albums that are old. Fuck that I say. One of my favourite Irish albums ever is Michael Knight's Youth is Wasted on the Young. But about 10 people ever have heard of that so its not gonna make a list like this.

Edit: Oh, and Adrian Crowley's second last album

I loved that album. I'd say mostly because it was like a secret album for me since no one knew of it. I was so excited for that gig in December 2005, which was before I lived here. I flew over so I could go to it. Sadly, I am with Scutter on this because after seeing them live, it just wasn't the same. As for the spoken bits, yes a bit hokey but I love his accent so it never bothered me being an American. How did Astral Weeks not make it on the list, clearly that should be number one. I'll be honest though, I haven't heard of half of the ones listed.

Cathy davey's 2nd and 3rd albums, groom's marriage, spook of the thirteenth lock, moutpiece - all fantastic albums with limited audience, with the exception of davey.
