O Emperor (formerly Saviours of Space) have been making music together for two years. In March 2007, they released their debut single, I Want It. Hot Press thought they were good and duly noted them in their magazine. In this period of the band’s life, they also won the National Student Music Awards, with a unanimous vote from all twelve music industry professionals who were adjudicating. Of late, the band have taken a somewhat different approach to songwriting, swapping angular guitar lines for a more considered, orchestrated sound that focuses on intricate arrangements with a great emphasis placed on production. It is a sound that is influenced both by the honesty and melodic prowess of older acts like The Beatles and the innovation of more recent acts like Mercury Rev and Grizzly Bear. The band have spent the past few months recording what is to become their debut album. This is an effort which they have undertaken by themselves in a cold house in Kinsale. On listening to the album, this atmosphere is apparent as an unsettling mood prevails throughout. The band wished to record an album that broke away from the trend of current indie guitar bands so a lot of time was spent layering different instruments to create something more thought-out and rich in texture.

LPX

Bio
Leighton P Xavier Proudly Presents...LPX is Kildare man Leigh O'Gorman (LPX for shortness). He specialises in brooding punk infused experimental electronica, as heard on three highly recommended releases, Seventeen, Experiments in Dub and HiFi and Easy Music for Difficult Ears.
On LPX releases he provides the (occasional) vocals, the programming, the production AND plays all the instruments and is also the man behind The Electric Fix, a musical collective that for two-and-half years organised gigs around Dublin and occasionally released CD's and the like. Leigh says his music sounds like "a bunch of nerds in a small room dropping acid".
When performing live (and in studio) Leigh prefers to use Reason 2.5, Pro Tools M-Box 2 along with piano's, guitars, percussion and anything else he can get his hands on. In his spare time, he writes for the music orientated blog, Easy Music for Difficult Ears.

Green Lights “Time to Tell the Parents” EP

highres2.jpg

Electronic pop-rock, mish-mash outfit Green Lights release their 2nd EP Time to Tell the Parents on November 21st 2008.

Green Lights were formed in summer 2006 by housemates Colin (vocals, guitar, sampler), Daniel (drums) and Nigel (keyboards, glockenspiel, backing vocals). Time to Tell the Parents is the follow up to the band’s debut release, the Small Curious Things EP, which was released in March 2008.

Over a five month period Green Lights put together their own nationwide tour of 33 shows in support of this release in well-known venues like Whelans (Dublin), The Roisin Dubh (Galway), The Spirit Store (Dundalk), and Dolans (Limerick). These were a combination of headline gigs, support slots and damnitjustletusplay performances that brought the band’s unique stage setup and distinct style of performance to a large number of new fans.

Time to Tell the Parents is released on the band’s own label, 516 Records. It will be available in digipack CD format and will retail in Dublin at Road Records, Tower Records and at the band’s live dates from November 21st. Digital downloads can be purchased from myspace.com/greengreenlights. The EP launch takes place in Dublin’s Boom Boom Room on Saturday December 13th with support from Cloud Castle Lake and How Will They Cope.

The Time to Tell the Parents EP was recorded in Dublin’s Redlab Studios (Channel One, Twin Kranes) in a single weekend session in August. The four tracks range from the electro pop opener Cut to the Chase to the atmospheric sounds of Tiny Little Ghost. These tracks bookend two songs that are more in keeping with the traditional Green Lights sound, the rousing rock of 23 Days and the three minute synth attack of It’s not what you think it is.

Since forming two years ago Green Lights have played with almost all of the heavy hitters of the independent Irish music scene including Fight Like Apes, The Flaws, Grand Pocket Orchestra, Le Galaxie, Adebisi Shank, Twin Kranes, and Subplots. These gigs have proven to be just as inspirational to the band as their many international influences have been – artists like Tom Vek, Pavement, Yo La Tengo and Grizzly Bear.
