Laptop officially dead - new motherboard needed @ €600 - so it's new laptop time.

So, processor buffs, which is better spec.
Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T2080 (1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB, 1MB Cache)
...or...
Intel Centrino Duo T2250 / 1.73 GHz Dual-Core
Data Bus Speed 533 MHz
Cache Memory
Type L2 Cache Installed Size 2 MB

The second laptop is €100 dearer than the first.

Isn't centrino marketing speak for a group of technologies rather than being a cpu type?

Go to your man on the South Circular Road beside's Sallys Bridge. He always has some bargains...

Will drop in tomorrow.

I'm kinda stuck cos I need a laptop with Win XP and PCMCIA.
All the good deals on laptops at the mo are Vista and Express Card.

Centrino chips are grand. I have had no problem with them.
You might be getting mixed up with Celeron. Which were a bit dodge.

I think, yeah, like people are saying, its just a chip with the wireless thing built sort of onto the chip, meaning that you can run it using less power for some reason.

You should be able to buy XP machines still. No probs.

Like, since Vista is so hungry, there are a lot of laptops flying around that are not powerful enough to run it.
You should be able to get a bargain.

edit, and those intel core duo chips are amazing in laptops.
I would be going for the T2250 or whatever.

Or just buy a vista capable one & stick xp on it (assuming you can get one with pcmcia slot) - that way you can always upgrade to vista at no cost later.

Yeah - the 2Mb cache on the T2250 might swing it.
Just need to see if Pentium Dual Core is better over all than Centrino Dual Core.

have a look at the power demands for each. I think the Centrino machines use less power, == less heat, == longer battery life, == longer lasting bits and more comfortable to use.

Like, I meant that both of those chips are amazing. They are both intel core duos in my head.
The Centrino one just has wireless on board the actual chip, and some other stuff.
