Minor Musical Observations (7 Viewers)

I've listened to this many times, but still can't get my head around it.

It starts out as a la-di-da singalong, then it turns into Mull of Kintyre. And then FOOTBALL.
The meter is odd, odder still is the massive gang of geezers who do it perfectly every time.

Having listened to it a bit more, I might nearly have got it now. The rhythm of it is so strange though.
Try singing it to yourself.

Never noticed this as a child, but the timing on this is nuts. The last bass run at the end every cycle, what the hell count is that? First happens at :39

I can just never get the last phrase right. Hate when tunes do that, or I just don't *get it*. Like when drums kick back in the half time bit at the end of Raining blood at about 2:09. It's the tiniest thing, but can never get it.

This, by the Beach Boys, confuses me similarly. Just something wrong to my ears with the verses. Ace tune though.

It's 6/8 the whole way, the bass player just plays the last bar of the cycle differently from the rest of the bars to give it the phrase a liquidation.

Isn't it though? I can't imagine something like this being a hit today

Nothing with some fucker in his late 30s standning about is gonna be a hit for sure, nevermind the inventiveness of it all.

also the comments on the video. people have a really intense relationship with that tune

Further to that guy from the Clothes and Haircuts thread being on fire tonight:

Tonights DJ was playing lots of 80's hiphop, a bit of Kraftwerk. Actually doing DJ skills, which I don't fully appreciate, as in understand, but I could tell he was doing some kind of thing, and it was good.

So C&H guy asks what i reckon about the music. I said well, there's a lot of 808 stuff that I've never heard before. It is certainly not my thing etc, but it's interesting etc. Yes obvs, I said, I've heard plenty of 808 music before, but this guy is playing stuff I've never heard before. And that is good.
Hobbitish local Uni students, (one of whom is apparently doing a doctorate in music) were listening in on us, and they ask:

....

....

"What is an 808?"

Much well natured conversation ensued.
