Yup. But anyone who can get Walmart to stop selling ammunition can't be all bad. Mind you, half an hour after they said they'd stop they probably started again, but anyway, think of all the heartbroken NRA heads who've to go that extra yard now...

i heard something about a "sodomobile"....

A brilliant moment in television history! MM got this massive tour bus and decorated it with pink frilly stuff. Gathered about 8 screaming Mimi's and they went on tour stalking Rev. Fred Phelps and his posse. Phelps has made a name for himself by spouting forth God Hates Fags and showing up at the funerals of those who have died from HIV Disease and terrorizing the mourners with signs like YOUR SON IS IN HELL.

MM interviews some dim witted woman and gets her to teach him her God Hates Fags song...

Fucking HYSTERICAL!

I think he's a genius. I saw him speak on Ralph Nader's US presidential campaign tour in Chicago and he rocked the whole stadium!

I will be there on Saturday! Ian, lunch? Who else is going?

er...no. In my opinion he highlights the obvious (ie. the truth), which a lot of
people either dont know about or dont want to know about.

i mean, Supermarkets selling bullets and Banks giving out guns...think about it, is he REALLY exaggerating ?

I think G.W.B is the REAL master of exaggeration (See below)

"The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country."

- George W. Bush

"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure."

- George W. Bush

"One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'."

- Governor George W. Bush

"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future."

- Governor George W. Bush

"The future will be better tomorrow."

- Governor George W. Bush

"We're going to have the best educated American people in the world."

- Governor George W. Bush

"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made."

- Governor George W. Bush

"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe."

- Governor George W. Bush

"Public speaking is very easy."

- Governor George W. Bush

"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."

- Governor George W. Bush

"We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur."

- Governor George W. Bush

"For NASA, space is still a high priority."

- Governor George W. Bush

"Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children."

"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it."

- Governor George W. Bush

"It's time for the human race to enter the solar system."

- Governor George W. Bush

he's simplistic and reductive and appeals to smug american liberals. he is genuinely dangerous when he's being super-simplistic about northern ireland or palestine, as in stupid white men.

but he's not ann coulter or rush limbaugh.

and

maybe if it gets people reading noam chomsky, howard zinn, emma goldman, edward said, germaine greer, rudolf rocker, malcolm x, guerilla girls, john berger and a million others then maybe it's a good thing.

i heard nirvana before i ever heard fugazi.

ambivalently yours,

tom.

i also heard nirvana before i heard fugazi

Chomskys books are really really boring though, aren't they? After a couple of chapters of relentless factual documentation of this massacre and the other one amd who wrote what in which memo and blah blah blah I just give up and feel like screaming at him "YEAH WE GET THE IDEA, THE US DO BAD THINGS ... GET ON WITH IT!". I know its necessary and all that but Jesus it doesn't make good reading ...

I did see the guy talk in UCD way back in the mists of time and he was great.

Edward Said ... now he's the man. Or was the man. RIP.

Heard someone on Joe Duffy giving out loads about the Ticketmaster fee for M Moore. The nation will be up in arms by tomorrow.

Someone mentioned Ann Coulter up there. She is one completely crazy bitch. I saw her on American telly talking to some Washington Republican Wagons Fundraiser lunch and she's scary. Fascist malevolent nazi scary. Wrote a book about how Senator Joe McCarthy had the right idea all along. Talked about how left-wing-liberal-democrat women are always ugly whereas right-wing republicans like herself are really sexy and that proves they are on the right side. And how all Europeans are nuts (look what they did in WW2 after all) etc.. etc..

I've a lot of time for Edward Said. If you want to get a good idea on the Middle East, he's the man to read.
