I have a soft spot for Ballybunnion. It's touristy but the beach is beautiful and I love the little shop along it so you don't need to walk all the way back up to the top. Also, the walk on the cliff.Daughter is in Irish college in Kerry, they're allowed out on the Sunday so we went down for a couple of days to visit. Used to go a lot when I was wee, but my god, those few days taking in Valentia Island, Dingle and spots like Ballybunion beach were so good for the heart and mind, Kerry is magnificient.
Funny the little things that have changed, there's a charge for *everything*. "Oh, you want to step into this field to look at a puddle that looks a little bit like where R2D2 might have widdled himself, that'll be 4 euro please"
Isn't that where there's a bakery that we ordered so much cake off them that they still remembered us years later?I have a soft spot for Ballybunnion. That's abolsutely amazingMy last landlord used "substantial refurbishments" to terminate our tenancy in our last RPZ house, and then claimed that the refurbishments exempted the house from being in the RPZ, almost doubling the rent. While I was there himself and the agent told me I'd need to "come to some sort of arrangement" with them where he could increase the rent about 80% instead of 4%.
I knocked in for a chat with the old tenants, told them the old rent, and had a chat about the work done, and that the agency refused to tell them the old rent, or how the new figure was arrived at, other than it being exempt from RPZ rules. Offered, should they wish to take a case, I'd speak at the hearing or submit evidence.
Just found out that the landlord has been ordered to pay them the max award through the R T B for overpayment of rent, and advised them to pursue the remaining almost 20 grand through the courts. Their rents were also reduced to what it should have been, which is about 1100 less a month. Having a look at the tribunal report, it seems my visit was the thing that alerted them to the fact that they were overpaying, that the works weren't particularly substantial, and helped them build their case.
