Legal aspects of running a gig space (2 Viewers)

Bumping this yet again.. Has anyone on here actual experience is setting up a legit venue? Something along the line of Seomra Spraoi but only for gigs and only open when the gigs are on..

Yeah I used to work in one. It was in Belfast though so I'm sure there are a lot of differences in how things work legally etc.
Giro's was a registered charity, also representing a cross-community outlook in Northern Ireland, and on that basis could apply every year for government funding to pay the rent etc.
Also had an entertainment license as far as I recall, although there was some problem or other with that at one point I think.
The place was BYO, the building was set-up as a members space for the Belfast Music Collective, which as far as I know means that if members are bringing drink in then it's okay, or something like that. There was no bar and no alcohol sold in the place so never a problem in that sense.
Anyway you get the idea, I'm sure absolutely none of that will be applicable to what you have in mind.
