I'm looking to find a laptop suitable for gigging. One with a low buffer rate latency, so midi controlled drum /etc. stuff is in time with the live music. I don't know too much about ASIO. Is a good sound card completely necessary, or will a good ASIO program along with high RAM/processing speed take care of buffer latency? Sorry, I'm completely new to this. Hoping for between 2ms-8ms lag, for use with fruity loops if that makes any difference.
Anyone gig with laptops and have any advice? Particular brands of laptop/sound card?

yeah your latency is based on your sound card get a decent external soundcard with at least Asio drivers and your sorted chief. You can get things like asio-for-all but just man up and pay for your live rig and feel good

Also you could join my band but we have a no laptops on stage rule so you'll have to play it for real!
