"The last great survivor of the almighty early-80s swamp-punk scene, guitar-slinger Kid Congo Powers might just have the greatest CV in rock 'n' roll history. No exaggeration – this man was an integral part of the Cramps, the Gun Club and Nick Cave's Bad Seeds, three absolutely colossal names in the annals of post-punk, and without doubt three of the most influential bands of the age.

Having pioneered the fabled 'Wall of Noise' feedback-heavy fuzz-guitar sound on the Gun Club's seminal Fire Of Love album despite not knowing what the chords were called, Kid Congo was personally headhunted by Lux and Ivy of the Cramps, who adored his looks and his style. But he would invariably gravitate back towards the Gun Club, working with soul brother Jeffrey Lee Pierce, with whom he collaborated on some of the most soul-searching music ever created – some of it powerfully punkish and aggressive, some of it dreamy and beautiful (just check out Mother Juno, a spine-tingling album which sounds like ocean waves).

Nick Cave also became a fan, and enlisted Kid's services for Tender Prey and his ultimate masterpiece The Good Son. The Gun Club era having come to a tragic halt with the untimely passing of Pierce in 1996, Kid Congo's latter-day career has witnessed a couple of well-received solo albums (In The Heat of the Night and Solo Cholo).

The man himself is now about to hit Dublin again with his current outfit, the Pink Monkey Birds. Dublin has been warned! A man with a million stories, often cited as one of the nicest men in the musical universe, this guy is more than worth a look "
