Mix Info:
"What You See is What You're Given" is a mixed selection of recordings
made in November 2008. With Ableton Live as the main looping/
recording platform the sounds were made with a home-made zither,
effects feedback, a dictaphone and other random sound making devices.
Best listened to when tired.
Ed Devane/Second Square to None:
Ed Devane has been making "music" for over 10 years, and while being
better known for heavy beat driven tunes, spends a lot of time
recording live ambient / noise improvisations. Normally this type of
music ends up being source material for his dancefloor tracks, or
remains unheard by everyone but himself. As a reaction to this Ed and
Conor Hinfey (a.k.a. Kachanski) have set up an outlet for this sort of
material in the Second Square to None series of gigs. With clubs such
as !kaboogie covering the mentalist side of electronic music, the lads
saw space in the Dublin scene for an ambient / downbeat event, which
gives producers, DJ's and musicians a chance to air their quieter
material to a receptive audience.
An emphasis has been placed on the importance of visuals to accompany
the music; comfort for the audience; and general art scene promotion
through the CD-r mini label, which catalogues livesets played at
Second Square to None. The CD covers are decorated with various types
of locally produced artwork, and sold at an affordable €3 a pop at the
gigs. Check the website www.youhavereturned.com for archived
high-quality 320kbps MP3's of most of the sets played at the gigs, as
well as news, art and whatever else we think is worth making
available.
