Jim O'Rourke (1 Viewer)

I saw Mayo Thompson play once. O'Rourke was on bass. O'Rourke also did this amazing really long version of that Thunderclap Newman (?) song that I won't remember the name of. He would play the chorus really straight and then segue into a drone thing for a few minutes, then back into the song, back to drone ...... it was really deadly.

I could never love o'rourkes music, it tends to sound great but seems a bit empty at heart or something. I like him as a producer though, i sometimes indulge in fantasies about him producing a new roy harper album.

Yeah. Quite controversial Diarmuid.

I love Introduction and ... wait, wait this is a thread about Jim.

I disagree heartily with the rancour directed towards Born Again in the U.S.A. I fuckin' love both Loose Fur albums. Tweedy is great at the subtle, disarming phrase. But they're both savage lyricists/vocalists. Jim may while be the king of the pithy couplet.

Anyway, favourite O'Rourke-related (as well as probably one of my favourites ever) album including his solo/solo stuff

is Camofleur by Gastr de Sol.

Not much more to say, loved The Visitor. It works really well as a listening experience on vinyl.

Favourite solo with proper songs - Eureka. Glorious narrative feel to it.

i had the same thing trying to post that faith no more streaming link from npr

had to type and select some text to make into a link instead

My estimation of O'Rourke went right down when he started slagging Mayo Thompson and making out that he basically made the Red Krayola albums that he produced himself.

Mayo Thompson = bona fide genius
Jim O'Rourke = capable, often derivative
Arise dead post, I command you! He was saying the same things about Faust. It seems like his standard line for working with classic bands making a comeback.

Amazing show by him in Whelan's a couple of years ago with Loren Connors.
recent japanese gig footage. never picked up on the arnold dreyblatt vibe of this tune on the recorded version.
