So,for the second January in a row I am I roasting my bollocks off in Las Palmas.
Actually last year was Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is deadly..but Las Palmas...is..a major Spanish city.

It's paradise. There's a big beach on the other side of town which I haven't seen and probably won't.Im not a beach dude.

The city centre is where it's at. It's rough, yet calm. It's rich but grimey. It's roasting hot and everyones drinking all day.its what they do when they've finished serving tourists down south.

There's about 3 cops. I assume they would shoot you fairly handy if you act the bollocks. So no one acts the bollocks*
And the three fuzz are relaxed.
*Actually I saw a lad taken his shirt off and attack a bin violently earlier

There's a rock club.

There's a massage thomann style music shop.

Everybody is a better guitarist than me.

Seriously, everyone plays the guitar to varying degrees of Paco delucia

They have quasi legal weed

There's a strong anarchist vibe in the people. They have respect for each other.

And it's sunny as fuck. I suppose that would make for a happy bunch of lads.

I'm sitting here having a breakfast beer squinting at my phone cos it's so sunny.

And you cunts are freezing your bollocks off.

Feels good man.

It's good really.

Actually, it's pretty much like the town your describing. But not warm. 4 degrees or something. And we have more Italian anarchists than Spanish ones. Did the NY countdown on the beach.
Irish bands everywhere. There was a lad doing an open mic slot last night. He mentioned that he just doing a practice set before embarking on a US tour. "You love them Irish songs seanc", they said. Yes, but moreso, I like that this guy actually knows how to use a microphone. And his guitar is in tune. Don't always get that on an open mic.

Police are hilariously malleable, they've all been bullied in school. Weed is quasi-legal, not that I partake.

Las Palmas is an amazing place. Its not as warm as the south of the island, but is far more interesting. I think I read before its the second most densely populated city in all of Spain.

Go to Las Canteras. Its worth the effort. There's a boardwalk right up over the beach with lots of cool little cafes and juice bars. Theres a place called Hot Fani too, but I don't know what goes on in there. A lovely place to go for a ramble.

'Sake, I actually watched all of that.

Case in point about using a microphone.

Serious haircuts though.

It's not my open mic, to be clear. I don't have any control over it whatsoever. Just a happy local punter.

Every Wednesday in this pub, managed between a group of two or three compere's week to week.

There's a far more avant garde one down the road on the first and third Tuesday. I've never been able to sit through a whole thing. Though everyone is really lovely.

And there's others that I don't know about. But every night of the week egg_, if you want.

People in Canarias went through Hell during the pandemic. The economy is about 80% tourism and they were on their knees.
There seems to be a good music and cultural scene in Las Palmas but obviously not many bands / musicians go there. Never been there personally.

Here's a noisecore band playing a Las Palmas high school gym in 1994:

Used to be mates with a lad from Belfast who’s family moved to Las Palmas in the 80s and played in a death metal band

AFAIK this page is old grindcore etc. bands from Gran Canaria from early 1990's. Pathetic was a Carcass style band with the G.M. guys. G.M. got to play school gigs a few times.

I know other more recent bands from Las Palmas playing music like this.
