Oh the shame.
me and a friend had a competition to see who could get the most letters printed in the NME

WOW:

- The person I remember writing repeatedly to the NME (and getting printed) was as dude called John Connolly from New Barnet. c1990.

Fair City is on now and Pierce just asked Heather 'What are your influences'

She said 'John Connolly' - just as I read your post.

I hadn't even had my confirmation when these came out now that I think of it. Still remember some of those songs though.

I never bought music magazines (and still, generally, don't) but I did used to read my sisters Smash Hits! Magazine for a laugh.

Or there was Cathy Evans, Lucan, who used to write into hot press constantly.

I always wanted to know what she looked like!

didn't she become

Kathy Evans and moved to the US - was it Seattle?

Very irritating and overbearing letters. Couldn't see why they were published unless they were part of some massive in-joke.

I remember it now - Kathy Evans Corner.

Shove it up your hole Kathy, no one cares.

I am with Brian Conniffe on this one. Oasis were, and still are, shit. There was a time when I thought I hated music because I hated most of what was being played on the radio (and the majority of the stuff that my friends were listening to - all those horrible boybands, shudder).. I just don't listen to the radio now... much better.

Karma sucks! I had to tolerate 10 straight minutes of Oasis during my taxi ride home from Crawdaddy.

The only letter to the NME i remember was from an ex-barman, terminal cancer patient who used to work in the (kentish, not sure, london branch) town and country circa 93 who said "if you don't believe in passive smoking, check me out - ten years behind the bar in the T&C and i've never smoked even one cigarette yet i'll die in the next five years".

Other than that, i honestly have no idea what the NME concerned itself with, letters wise. I just remember the long, multiple journalist Reading 92 reviews (which even at eleven i knew were total horse shite)
