Well some would argue that the money "wasted" on bus fare could be plowed into purchasing a vehicle of some type, thus acquiring an asset for your money rather than a service. I wouldn't argue that however.

Alternatively some would argue that between the cost of repayments, service, petrol, insurance, tax and parking, not to mention depreciation, a car is more of a liabilility than anything else. A necessary evil for many though.
