I'd always recommend Gunns on Camden street, for any photographic endevours. Mainly because they're a lovely family, but in this case I'd imagine even their completely reasonable pricing may be high for something you can do yourself.

Give them a try anyway.

i might have access to one in work but i'm not sure if it's on a photo scanner or a document scanner, or if it even still works.... if not i'll be doing them on an A3 flatbed

yeah it was a stack of old photos of my neighbours' almost 21 year old. It turns out our wonderful sheet-fed photocopier / scanner / fax machine in work can do an adequate job - quality is far from fantastic, but will do just fine since they're only going to be projected on a wall for 1 night. took a couple of minutes to scan 70 standard sized photos, then I did the couple of larger ones one at a time.

Places charging €100 for 500 photos are taking the piss.
