I been trying to get my website listed on some search engines, but even though they tell me the site has been listed it's still not coming up on the search results.
Any tips?????

Putting google Adsense ads on your page is meant to be a quick way of getting Google to spider your site.

Whats your META code like.

When Im doin a webpage I always stick the words
porn, sex, ringtones and any other popular shit that
will have the site come up all the time.

You get visited by pervs but fuck it, its a hit.

That is stick those words in the META keywords tag.
Or put them in ont he home page but in the colour of the background.

Doing what kreature recommends is a sure way of getting blacklisted by google

For surely real? The brother has "big tits, fierce bra strap" amongst his keywords on http://www.francis-bacon.cx/ - at other times he's had anything from fisting to teen shoulder and gotten tonnes of hits, yet he's always been at the top for francis bacon on google (though it seems he's recently been unsurped by some english gentry biography). I ask as i was half thinking of throwing a few bits of naughtiness on my own site's tags to get some hits...

Keywords is bullshit. Ya need to get yer site listed in as many directories as possible to boost yer page rank. the best option is to get as many one way links as possible from sites relevant to yours. Recipricol links are worth half but are good too. so start looking for directories that are free to submit to and have a good page rank. Re-directs are no use- must be a direct link.

Ah but the rules have probably changed since i started typing this

some simple steps:

- meta tags are mostly useless - too easily abused, so google tends to rank them quite low. you should still have them for document identification, however. have keywords, description and author. don't put 'dummy' tags in like 'sex' or 'boobs' - this could well get you blacklisted, as said.

- have a good page <title> tag. it's meant to be a page description, so don't have something like this:

//// my //// cool //// site ////
yes, it looks cool, but it's mostly useless for google. have something like this instead:

site name - quick description
i.e.:

thumped.com - irish independent music resource

- don't have multiple domain names all pointing at the same pages. google interprets this as a spamming technique. there are ways around this, though, but that's kind of secondary here.

- if possible, avoid using tables for layout. switch to div-based layout. this requires getting to grips with xhtml/css though. speaking of which:

- if you're any way serious about all this, use xhtml/css, use web standards, and validate your code as you go. visit www.webstandards.org and buy this book: http://www.zeldman.com/dwws/

- get people to link to you. this is probably the most important one. google eats that stuff up. if possible, get them to link to you via a keyword. so, instead of a link to this site being 'click for thumped.com', the link should be 'thumped.com - information on independent irish music' or the like. likewise, make sure your internal site links are descriptive - never use 'click here' as a link phrase. link phrases should make sense when read out of context: 'reviews of new releases', 'latest news', 'upcoming events', etc. don't construct your page navigation with images, if possible. use styled text. my current favourite method for designing page navigation is this one: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/slidingdoors/

- like egg_ says, register with dmoz.

- make sure your images have alt attributes. make sure your links have title attributes, if possible.

- write your code structurally, not presentationally. i.e., have a <h1> tag for the most important text on the page, then use css to style that tag to how you want it to look. this is instead of having ordinary text which is then modified with <font> tags and the like - don't do that shit!

- have good, well-written, keyword-rich content. easier said than done.

- in the past couple of years, google seems to have adopted a 'sandbox' policy, where new sites are automatically not shown in searches until up to six months down the line. so don't freak out if your site still isn't showing up in a month. doing all the above will stand to you; you will show up eventually, and probably very high up the rankings.
