Just robbed the most recent Hot Press off a girl in work and noticed just how shite it is. Has this been going on for ever or is this a new thing???

It just seems like one big advertisment, with very little substance and all this for €3.50. I might be wrong as I have not read it in years, but too me its just a rip off.

If Hotpress were a shop, this would be it:

Although I think it would have an 'utter' in there somewhere...

There was never, as long as I can remember, anything good about hot press. Beats me how they stay in business. Who buys it? I don't know ANYONE who buys it.

€3.50???? And I thought Vinnie Browne's Village mag was dear for three europes?

Havent read Hot Press in years and dont know anyone who does. Bears absolutely no relevance to whats happening with Irish music. It's a glorified ad rag. Do they still do those "industry specials" where they pay "tribute" to some eejit as an excuse to have pages and pages of ads from people saying what great gas he or she is?

No. Not that, on the OTHER side of the page. The FIRST Best of the Fortnight

ahem

The cover pays for the content. Every once in a while you will see britney or madge or some super star type on the cover..this is paid for by the label..exposure on a magazine cover keeps said artist in view on the rack and it's comparitivly cheap. I wouldn't get to excited about it though. Most music magazines are the same tripe though and this is not a new thing..one of the few worth mentioning is the wire and even that has loads of ads and such. Hot press dont have to worry about their content because of ads. So they dont.

It's Vinnie's Brown Village. It's a magazine dedicated entirely to my Milk Chocolate African American Father Brown from the GK Chesterton short stories. At least it would be if I had any money. Or any idea what I was talking about.

in this issue they have done a 100 best irish album thing as voted by irish 'musicians ' like eh erm er - us.

you may or may not care to see good stuff included on the list such as -

jape 56
ann scott 58
the dudley corporation 59
waiting room 70
and the redneck manifesto 34 and 65

astral weeks by the dudley corporation came in at number one - obviously and correctly:) .

they are doing a real people vote next time round. how will the above fair me wonders.

The Corpo have done a cover album of Astral Weeks???!!! I have to hear that ....

Bet none of the albums we voted for made it onto the list .... Mama's Boys for example?

very suspicious difference in coloration of the year there slowey!

yes it would seem nearly all those eh suspects i mean legends of modern irish rock are in the list.

aint it comforting the way nothing ever changes.

ahhh i am at peace with myself at last.
