Hang on, Belle & Sebastian are complete rip off merchants themselves - borrowing melodies here, yoinksing melodies there - so stealing from them is like stealing from.. well.. a thief. Which, is guilt free I imagine.

Not to say I think Groom did anything of the sort.

Hey I didn't use the word ripoff. Someone played me one of the songs the other night and I said "Oh, is this some new B & S?" and it was Groom's latest album. I think the song had the rhyming couplet along the lines of immunology/HIV. It sounded more like B & S to me than any previous Groom track I'd heard. Every artist borrows from other artists, no big deal, but it's not a big deal either for me to point out that one of Groom's songs sounds very like a B & S song. The Aisler's Set have several B & S-alike songs and I'm well aware that B & S commit grand theft audio on a regular basis, although you could argue that there's are very deliberate pastiche in most cases.

It was I who played the song for him.

So I'll step in...

The death of a songwriter really reminds me of B & S too.

It's not so much the song but the voice and the delivery that does it for me.

And I love B & S.
