good record shops in london (2 Viewers)

I always make the pilgrimage to Berwick street when in the Lahndahn

Sadly my favorite greasy spoon had closed down when I was last there as had a few of the record shops... hope its picked up again by now. Great street.

But dont mention Oasis or album covers.

Honest Jon's and Sounds of the Universe are probably my two favourite record shops anywhere. Rough Trade is almost my least favourite - they have a good selection but are always ridiculously overpriced. CD albums for £18 that you can get for £10 in Honest Jon's just down the road from RT Ladbroke Grove.

Not sure about second hand shops though - there's a list of sorts at http://www.djhistory.com/resources/ that might be handy.

haggle vinyl essex road and theres another shop further down the street

i co-sign on haggle vinyl but yer man is a bit of a pillock ( ha haven't used that word in years ) great selection tho, and there is a few other stores on the road worth checking for good 2nds

Music and Video Exchange - should have a few branches

Iused to work for them.... Great great great Shop but the boss is a prick. paranoid.psycho. with reason down thru the years

the best and cheapest record shop inlondon by far. esp the notting hill branch. and the clothes shops are the best in the world too

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

I spent a good bit of the afternoon last Friday in The Record and Tape Exchange in Notting Hill. It started raining as I exited the tube station and I was thinking "shit I get into any shop but it would be really nice if I didn't have to stand awkwardly in an empty Vodaphone one and pretend to browse". Then The Record and Tape Exchange magically appeared in front of me. Got inside, total non stop torrential rain at this stage, a guy dressed like Elvis next to me says " I fink iz wazza ploy ta keep iz in ear".

Anyway looked around the shop for nearly an hour before i realised there was a bargain basement, which is AMAZING.

Some highlights include - all LPs

Bridge Over Trouble Water - 10p
Paul Simon, Graceland - 50p
There goes Rhymn Simon - 30p
Rhythmn of the Saints - £1
Sound of Silence £2
First Tom Tom Club Record - £4
talking heads, remain in light - £3
SHIT LOADS of tangerine dream records
Notorious Byrd Brothers - £4
Byrds, Mr Tamberine Man - £4
Beach Boys - Surf's Up - £7
and lots lots more

Also took an extensive walk down Berkwick St until it turned into the grimey porno section. Got a copy of "LOVE YOU" by the Beach Boys LP.

Ahhhhhh why aren't shops that good over here.
