Funzo / The Hired Hands / Giraffes
Whelan’s, Wednesday, October 28th
FREE ADMISSION
Funzo is a six-piece musical outfit, fronted by songwriter Liam McDermott. Referencing a diverse range of acts; from the Beatles and Stevie Wonder to Kanye West and the Streets--and buoyed by their appearance at Electric Picnic in September 2009--they promise to remind you how 'pop' music, of the timeless variety, got its name." www.myspace.com/listentofunzo
The Hired Hands met while in school and college in Dublin. They come from a classical background but play their own mix of folk and rock with an emphasis on vocal harmonies and a natural string and woodwind sound matching twin guitars. The band play and record in a church hall and gig regularly around Dublin. They are currently working on their first album which is due to be released on Any Other City Records in 2009. Their debut single was released on June 5th 2009 on Any Other City Records. www.myspace.com/thehiredhandsdublin
Giraffes are a bunch of happy musicians playing together in Dublin since 07' or so. They sing, dance, play trumpets, pianos, guitars, drums and ukeleles, and make a sound coming from influences of folk, soul, jazz and theatre. In recent months, giraffes have gone on safari to the academy, the trinity ball, crawdaddy, tripod, and anywhere that will have them. www.myspace.com/giraffeslove
