So are there gonna be more people to test people who want a full license? Especially with it being up to a year wait as it stands and if there are as many people driving without full licenses as thought,then the wait is only going to get longer.
I think they should do what they did the last time the backlog was too big and just give out licenses to people to clear it.

From 1 December a provisional licence/learner permit holder must hold the licence/permit for six months before taking a driving test.

as far as i see it, the only reason to oppose this is because the waiting list to get a driving test. so the problem is not with the law itself but with the fact people can't physically get their hands on a license quick enough, right?

so we have 2 camps here. One in agreement with the change, consisting exclusively of fully-licensed drivers, and those against, who are still on provisionals.

The most amazing thing I find is that its actually always been illegal to drive on a provisional (first) without a licensed driver in the car. Shit or not, that was always the law. So theres nothing different on that front.

I got my license 12 years ago. I was a dangerous little bastard on the road until some cop hauled me into court and I got my slap on the wrists. I've driven like an aul one since.

If I was still a learner I'd be well pissed off. But I think I'd still see the merits in what they're doing.

The fact is that its the young fuckhead little boy racering bastards that are to blame.

anyways i heard that we might be heading to a situation where a certified instructor can sign you off for your full licence without you having to sit a test, and that a random selection of people awarded licences in that way will be called in to do a full test.

I applied for a test in February and I only got a letter yesterday - it's on the 16th of November. I failed my last test about 5 years ago. I hadn't done one since then as I was completely at a loss as to why I had failed. I should have passed. The tester was a wanker. So I couldn't see the point in doing it again if I was going to be failed again for no reason.

I've been driving for ten years. I have never been in an accident and have no penalty points. So how come all of a sudden I'm incompetent?

This country is completely fucked up. The government are great at passing sweeping generalised laws at the drop of a hat against people who aren't exactly menaces to society yet they do fuck all about anything that's actually important.

Pack of fuckers patting themselves on the back about bringing in smokings bans, dog bans, learner driver bans while the country goes down the fucking toilet. Deadly.

well, last night a qualified driver grabbed the handbrake and stopped me from rolling backwards into another car after i fucked up a hill start.

of course, if the prick driving said car behind me hadn't pulled up close enough to copulate with my car's exhaust pipe and then started beeping when i didn't get away immediately after the lights went green, i wouldn't have fucked it up in the first place, would i?

my other half applied for his test in february and still hasn't got his test yet despite the fact that he has had a million lessons and has been driving safely and competently. If you could book a text tmrw and get one at the end of the month i could understand but if yr waiting 9 months it totally doesn't make any sense.another stupid fucking decision methinks

I'd be interested in seeing the statistics on how many road deaths are attributable to leaners and how many to fully-licensed drivers. My guess is that very, very few deaths are caused by learners.

statistics should be available for all road deaths

alcohol level
speed
seatbelt status
etc

went back out on saturday for another lesson and i've been out twice with herself since then.
