This looks like being film of the year - DURTY FOCKING PRAWNSSSSS!!!
I'm going to review this now and then see how right I am when I see it.
Elysium.
It begins with an interesting concept, junxtaposing the horrificly squalid earth with the opulent other world of elysium it's self. Both planets are brilliantly realised and nuanced. The performances from Foster and Damon are excellent and the film moves along quickly drawing the audience in with original ideas and a rewarding under current of social commentary which is handled with aplomb by director Neil Blomkamp, who manages to press his decidedly 3rd world out look on aesthetics and content into the film without completely going off the deep end into a polemic,
However as with District 9 as the film heads towards it's climax and veers headlong towards explosions and special effect set pieces the films point gets lost and everything interesting is eventually sacrificed for cheap thrills and frankly silly twists. Pity really. Still it's always nice to look at and Matt Damon has a really oddly shaped head. Which is a bit of fun all in all.
