Foggy Notions presents

PONYTAIL

+ Adebisi Shank
+ Jogging

March 11, Whelan’s

Tickets €13 plus booking fee, WAV Box Office, Ticketmaster, Tickets.ie, City Discs

“A primal gurgle of happiness.” - Plan B

“Like Dan Deacon and the Wham City crew, Ponytail are finding ways to take the concerns of childhood and channel them into deceptively sophisticated music.” – Pitchfork, 8.4

“With a gazillion ideas snapped together like so many Legos, Ponytail's second album is an exhilarating puzzle.” – Spin

“A fresh and kinetic post-post-rock quartet from Baltimore, Ponytail is a little Boredoms, a little Deerhoof, a little Captain Beefheart's Magic Band.” – New York Times

“Like an unexpected fist in the face from a five-year-old, Ponytail’s boisterous pop-punk jams are saved from saccharine overkill with some unexpectedly tight hooks, plus a paradoxical, feathery lightness of touch that makes their music feel orgasmically flush even at its churningest and most densely impenetrable.” – Drowned in Sound

A four-piece multi-style rock act that have drawn comparisons to Deerhoof and Ecstatic Sunshine, Ponytail released their first slab of infectious sugar-fueled two-guitar trad punk (Kamehameha on Creative Capitalism) in January of 2007.

The Baltimore, MD, quartet features drummer Jeremy Hyman, guitarist Ken Seeno, and other guitarist (and Ecstatic Sunshine member) Dustin Wong, all fronted by the vast array of sounds that is vocalist Molly Siegel.

Winning critical praise for their hyper noisy live show that evokes elements of heavy-duty riffage, yells, growls, art rock, surf rock, ska, and Indian war chants, the outfit of youngsters appeared at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, TX, in the early part of 2008:

“Ponytail's trad punk rock four-piece setup felt downright refreshing, like scouring your brain with a pumice stone. Chaos threatened at every zinging riff and bashed cymbal, but the tension came from the stop-on-a-dime precision with which the band beat the shit out of its instruments. Vocalist Molly Siegel is no bigger than a thimble and has one of those big-little voices that bug you out from the moment she ambles onstage.”

Their second album, Ice Cream Spiritual, appeared in June last year on We Are Free Records. Ice Cream Spiritual is full contact aerobics. It’s a hedonistic whirlwind for your ears and body.

Yeah, should be deadly.

Jogging also playing the DCU Ragball in the Helix tonight (with Wounds and more).

Pissed off to be missing this :(

Still they're playing Primavera, so thats something to look forward to :)

Adebisi Shank + Jogging are dumping Ponytail and going on to play Cyprus Avenue together on Friday 13th March.

I went to Galway the last time they played to see them, since dublin audience only want to chin wank at gigs and hoped that peeps weren't as stiff down the country.
Unfortunately the fresh face crowd in rosins Ponytail show didnt seen to care for the band and again I was only fool footloosing at the show to their skittled fuelled fantic fuzz.
So depressing.
