I Have an electric guitar that I need a lot of work done on. Rewiring, getting action re-set, maybe some re-fretting. Does anyone know of someone decent who can do a really good job?

Been to that guy Eugene at the guitar workshop about a year ago for some of this work on the same guitar. He charged about 150quid was about 3 weeks longer than he said and didn't do a great job hence needing it totally re-done now.

I know there's a guy in Marley park that does it. Has anyone used him? I hear he's pretty expensive?

I had similar problems in belfast. So I bought a book and a good tuner and now do my own guitars. Wouldnt be too confidant about doing anyone else's but most guitar repair is pretty basic. The worst you can do is break a guitar that's already broke.

well, this is half hearsay but I've heard about a guy in galway who's supposed to be really good. he may specialise in acoustic guitars etc. but a mate of mine down here sent a homemade (1994 leaving cert woodwork project) electric bass up there and the guy actually made it playable, sorted out the inclination, lowered the action etc. I dunno if he deals with any electrified bits. I'd reckon he might. he fixed up another friend's battered acoustic nicely. also, he's supposed to be dirt cheap!

the only catch is.. I don't have any details about him. at all.. did I mention he lives in galway?

If I can get his details, I'll PM you.

He re-set the action and was supposed to re-wire and fix some of the switches that weren't working properly. Now it's all back the way it was before I gave it to him.

Guy in Marely Park is great. He is always busy so you may be waiting a while but the quality of his work is amazing.

What sort of prices does this guy charge?

i broke the neck on my les paul a few years back and he fit a whole new neck, tis beautiful work, 800 euro-ish (punts at the time) and it took him ages because he had loads of jobs on. small jobs shouldnt take him that long.

his name is derrick nelson i think, look him up.

derrick nelson 4942741

tony thomson 040 235 420

both highly recommended by pple on this board.

garyknifed is right though,if it is only yr action and simple electrics you should have a go at it yourself (unless it's a 1952 gretsch or something!). if it's only a fisher price/plywood/ japanese ax then you can't break it any more than it already is and you might learn something into the bargain...
