i just bought an 'infrasonic' firewire audio interface. and only NOW did i realize that my new mac doesnt have a firewire port.

is there anyway i can connect this device to my mac?

any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks.

em - did you buy it off thomann? they can be very understanding about returns when you make a mistake.

otherwise i think it might be a bad idea - even if you can get an adaptation device firewire and usb deal with files differently so it could lead to problems in multitracking.

basically the first thing i would attempt is to try to return it and get a usb one.
secondly i'd try and sell it and buy another
thirdly i'd look for an adapter (but read the below first)

just tell us what type of mac you have. there are a few generations of firewire. it could be the wrong cable? my white macbook is completely different to the aluminiums - a ten euro cable could get you in business.

Yeah, you could have a Firewire 800 port which you can get a 400 to 800 Firewire cable for.

any such thing as a wireless audio i/o yet?

There's Lightpeak coming down the line which has enough bandwidth to have your Monitor, Disks and Audio interfaces all running down a single cable to your computer :

thanks for the replies guys.

this is what the side of my mac looks like... only just got it recently and i hadn't realized that mac decided to stop putting the firewire port on the macbook.

yea,i did get it from thomann, so i think i will return it for the usb one... but can anyone tell me if usb interfaces are anygood? im not looking to record anything major just playing around with stuff at home, but i want a good strong signal.

this is the one i just bought http://www.thomann.de/ie/infrasonic_deux.htm
this is the usb one - http://www.thomann.de/ie/infrasonic_amon.htm
could anyone suggest a different or better usb interface? for around the price of the 'deux'

thanks again for the advice.

I use a USB 2.0 interface and it's fine (note 2.0!), 10 tracks in at once is the record so far and it was grand.. USB 2.0 is technically faster then firewire, but it's very much debated that over a period of time and certain band widths which performs best.. but for 2 in/out it should be fine

I always am, people are just slow on the uptake sometimes.

yeah, it's either one of these you need depending on the firewire connector type from that yoke you have.

is it firewire powered before you order?? just might be worth checking that out before as usb and fire wire are differnt voltages.
