DEAD KENNEDYS PULL OUT OF ³WAKING THE DEAD² SHOW AT OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM IN
>LOS ANGELES ON OCTOBER 29TH
>
>Coors Beer Sponsorship of Event Reeks of Bad Politics and Corporate Greed
>
>LOS ANGELES, Calif. & SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (October 5, 2005) Seminal
>punk
>rock band, Dead Kennedys, who will release the Special 25th Anniversary
>Edition of their classic ³Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables² on October
>25th, 2005, announced today that they have pulled out of the ³Waking The
>Dead² show at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles on October 29,
>2005. The event will go ahead as scheduled without the Dead Kennedys but
>will include Suicidal Tendencies, the Germs, Flipper, and Marky Ramone as
>previously announced.
>
>Dead Kennedys have decided to pull out of the show for political reasons as
>the band was not informed that there would be corporate sponsors when they
>agreed to play the show and were specifically unaware that Coors would be a
>major sponsor until advertisements for the show appeared in LA Weekly. Dead
>Kennedys immediately contacted the organizers of the event to object to and
>discuss the removal of Coors' sponsorship, but a suitable arrangement could
>not be made.
>
>A Google search of Coors will turn up information on a company that for
>years has funded right-wing groups such as the Nicaraguan Contras, the
>anti-gay Moral Majority, and the notoriously anti-punk Parents Music
>Resource Center (PMRC). Coors has also broken numerous unions, is
>anti-environment, and has funded lawsuits against affirmative action. More
>disturbing facts about the company can be found at
>www.corporations.org/coors <http://www.corporations.org/coors> .
>
>³Dead Kennedys have always been wary of corporate sponsorship and steer
>clear of lending our name to promote a product,³ said Dead Kennedys
>guitarist and founding member East Bay Ray. ³Because we were not alerted to
>the ultra conservative, right-wing sponsor for this event, we could not see
>a reason to go ahead and perform at this show in good conscience. Dead
>Kennedys want nothing to do with this event or Coors and I am disgusted
>that
>they are now sponsoring punk shows, something they are politically at odds
>with.²
>
>Dead Kennedys apologize to their fans, but hope to serve as an example to
>the punk rock community that certain ideals shouldn't be sacrificed. The
>band looks forward to playing an L.A. date in the near future to celebrate
>the 25th anniversary re-release of "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" and
>encourages you to think before you drinkÅ .Coors.

I know it's not the same, but what about Levis?
Also,if Suicidal Tendencies,Flipper, the Germs and Dead Kennedy's can all play as those bands, how come Marky Ramone is not the Ramones?

yeah i remember the levis thing it's pretty weird, although maybe they got free jeans? in all fairness maybe they got some skintights and what crusty wouldnt sell out for them:D

Marky Ramone's solo stuff is pretty shitty i listen to it as much as i do Dee Dee's rap album, i bought that record and listened to it once and nearly pissed myself and criewd at the same time cause christ he must have been really fucked up on crack if he actually thought he could rap. Ah but sure it'll be ebay gold in a few years, ha!

Dee Dee Ramone had a rap album? Holy shit. I have to hear that. I imagine it being the worst thing ever. Bet its like Vanilla Ice or something

Nice read and well done DK's
The diff is Gary is that Levi's prob did'nt support Right wing shit and anti Punk etcetc
Not sure of all that now but just guessing
hehe

But still a corporate endorsement. I'm sure someone could find something nasty about them. And I did say I know it's not the same.

What the fuck!!! Flipper and the Germs. Pathetic. People really need to get over the whole nostalgia thing.
Why would anyone what to see The Germs without Darby or Flipper without Will Shatter? Bollocks.
Ex Dead Kennedys are probably just trying get some cred by pulling out of that show. Fuck em.

The Germs line up has the actor who is acting as Darby singing for them(at least that's wht I heard),So it may just be some kind of promotional thing for the movie.
Haven't Flipper played on and off for years without Shatter?

Yeah, they did that crappy AMERICAN GRAFFISHY LP when the grunge thing took off. I've heard they even play without Bruce Loose these days!!

I thought that record was ok,there's a very different sound to it compared to the earlier records.
