East Wall History presents – “Dracula Fever”
The next meeting of the East Wall History Group is taking place on Friday 20th April. As well as discussing the on-going work and plans for the group, we will also mark the 100th anniversary of the death of our Clontarf Neighbour Bram Stoker. This will involve a discussion entitled “Dracula Fever” by group member Sarah Lundberg.
It is well known that aspects of “Dracula” were influenced by Bram Stokers own knowledge of the diseases and epidemics common in Ireland at that time. As well as illustrating this influence, we will look at the story of these epidemics in the local area Stoker grew up in (including the Docks).
As many older residents know, the occurrence of TB, measles and other epidemics were a common feature of daily life. Some information is contained in the East Wall school records, showing closures due to outbreaks.
Everybody is welcome to attend, just to listen or to join the discussion. We are particularly interested in hearing people’s stories and experiences of these events in the community over the years.
Friday 20th April at 7pm (“Dracula Fever” discussion at 7.30pm)
The Youth Club, Strangford Road
