my 5.7mm drill bits arrived today - and they're just about right for drilling holes to fit knobs onto pot shafts.

i wonder is there any market for these? i.e. do guitarists look at their guitars and think 'you know what this needs? a pair of oversize laburnum knobs'? i could easily knock them out for less than 20 quid a pair.

if i got up and running i suspect i could knock out 5 or 6 an hour (this is as yet untested), but one of the good things about it is that it's a good use of small stock which would otherwise go unused. i did pick that laburnum because it looks good though, but i do have some small diameter yew which would have a similar contrast.

other turners might use that stock for pen blanks, but whatever it is, i have never had any interest in making pens.

I'd say you could do with making them a tad smaller, and having and option with a bevel/champfer (so you ended up with something like this shape)

Stick that photo up on adverts, and see if it tickles any fancies.

yeah, those are way too big. i made one as a test and wasn't paying attention to the size, and the second is the same size just to make them a pair.
