I keep seeing this and it's basically codswallop


It was emotional for me when she spoke as Gaeilge - not because the gesture was sincere, but because that's all it would have taken decades earlier. A little empathy, a little outreach, a little understanding about what was going on here. Seeing us as equals, and not as subjects.
But that part of Englishness is blinded by ideas of empire and couldn't see any other way of looking at things other than support Loyalism and send soldiers in.
We're rebels and troublemakers for wanting to live in our own country.
They come and talk to you like that - as equals - when they have tried absolutely everything else to get their way.
But it's like anything else she's ever done; it was a ribbon cutting, a bottle smashed against a ship.
The real work had been done by John Hume, Seamus Mallon, Austin Currie, Gerry & Martin, the UUP and the Americans and even Bertie fucking Ahern.
She was at the after party.
And like everything else, she gets fawned over for reading some prepared remarks.
Never mind a fucking sorry for colonisation, the famine or burning Cork to the fucking ground and the list of crimes done here in the name of the Crown that's as long as your arm.

She and all her kind can fuck right off.
