socrates did study at the college of surgeons. he is now a doctor. and he still smokes 40 a day. chap.

David Ike eh? "Secret rulers of the world" and government conspiracys eh? flying saucers eh? what'll they think of next..

If you go through the ages you'll find that most (but not all!)western music of any real merit is devotional music (pre 20th Century), generally composed by folk who were extremely religious - sure our whole system of harmony (on which all rock music is based, and no style more so than metal) was born through the development of plainchant and organum, styles of singing which were exclusively christian.

Also, bear this in mind - religious nuts are a lot of the time more fanatical and passionate about what they do than non-religious nuts. So when those types of people turn their attention to music, it can create shocking results. Take Arvo Part, for example, or Keiji Haino....

just food for thought..

Osimono dismisses folk music in under one sentence. No, sir, the 'but not all' does not get you off the hook.

On Thursday, as I walked down O'Connell St carying a bass guitar I was confronted by a guy with long hair, a beard, a white robe and a wooden cross, who said to me 'You know where rock'n'rollers go when they die, man? They go to hell man'.

He then handed me a piece of paper that said "HELL'S FIRE is waiting for YOU"

I didn't really know how to respond

the Super Furry Animals support Cardiff in the English leagues, and sponsored their jerseys two seasons ago...had the big logo with the plug of the front of the jersey.

Are they the only band to have sponsored a footie team? I think Oasis were gonna get their logo on Man City.....but I think there's an Oasis Burger stand or something instead....

oi. Shels play some of the most attractive football in the eircom league. Stephen Geoghegan is a legend, and should probably have a career as a scaldy house dj when he finally retires. Hopefully he'll get a load next season though...he was deadly in the last six games of the season.

what a crazy guy!!

I'm sure what he meant to say was all BASS players got to hell. Its something to do with to much low end and groove and only having 4 strings and stuff.

Folk music can be devotional too.
Like qawwali and voodoo and black spirituals and gamelan and country'n'irish.....

And Keiji Haino isn't really religious, but he is a spiritualist, I suppose.
BTW, Hamid Drake is no longer a Sufi. He's a humanist now, and he still rocks.
I love Cotton Casino. Her god is beer.

I always thought Socrates played for UCD, no?
