12 March -Charlie Parr(USA) and Adrian Crowley
COBBLESTONE Dublin - £/€10.00

CHARLIE PARR Charlie Parr hails from Duluth, Minnesota. Rooster is Charlie Parr's 4th independent release and follows on from his marvellous 2004 release King Earl, which had toes tapping and people weeping into their beer in equal measure. Rooster similarly splits itself in two. It's a rustic, rural kinda place where heartbreaking delicate banjo tunes rub shoulders with gritty, bluesy stomp-a-longs. Charlie is the rough-hewn country cousin of Jack Rose – the teeth may be missing, the appearance disheveled and the beard tatty but he sure knows how to play. Lyrically the songs deal with the usual litany of human miseries and occasional joys: aging, death, loneliness, god, regret and even love. The music draws influence from the rural music of the 1920's: rags, blues, and folk tunes. Parr plays banjo, baritone 12-string, National steel guitar, and a wood-body resonator guitar built by fellow Duluthian Jake Larson. Charlie has fans in Alan Sparhawk (Low), Jack Rose, legendary cartoonist Robert Crumb and filmmaker Travis Wilkerson. He was initially brought to a UK audience when Hood's Richard Adams saw him perform a Christmas show in Duluth, Minnesota and tricked wife Sara into releasing his records in the UK on her Misplaced Music imprint. He has toured the UK twice playing shows with Carla Bozulich, Black Eyed Snakes, Adrian Crowley, Big Eyes and My Two Toms. He will be returning to the UK and Ireland for a two-week tour in March 2006. Since the release of his third album, ‘A Northern Country’ in 2oo4, Adrian has been invited on a USA tour with Damon & Naomi (ex- Galaxie 500) , has toured Spain and Portugal with Hood (Domino Records) and has toured extensively with James Yorkston in the UK and Ireland. He has also shared the bill with Animal Collective,Jose Gonzalez,Fence Collective, Arab Strap and Howe Gelb (Giant Sand). Crowley has appeared on numerous compilations in the USA and UK alongside the likes of Sufjan Stevens,Alasdair Roberts and Devendra Banhart. In a recent interview with ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine, Ryan Adams namechecked Adrian as one of his favourite underground songwriters around today.2006 already sees a new album set for release, co-produced by and featuring James Yorkston. A song from ‘When You Are Here You Are Family’ has been chosen for inclusion on a Rough Trade Shops compilation of songwriters.Crowley will be performing at this year’s ‘Greenman Festival’ in Wales and ‘Homefires’ in London. www.adriancrowley.com www.myspace.com/ adriancrowley www.misplacedmusic.co.uk
