Recently got a Nikon D7000. It's the business but my bro has a Canon (similar type model) and it's excellent too. I probably would have ended up tossing a coin but my wife likes Nikon so she chose.

I have heard good things about D7000. Truthfully, I've been dying to get my hands on this D800 and the rumor mill was in overdrive for well over a year before its announcement. Now I know it's coming out, I can hardly bear to look at my battered D80.
How much are kidneys worth on the black market?

if you have a pile of nikon lenses then go for the nikon. its all bells and whistles in the difference after that!

one problem might be that if your lenses are DX lenses, they might not work too well on the D800, necessitating new lenses too.

the D800 pumps out far too many megapixels for me. it's just overkill.
