Over the years many residents and workers have complained to Dublin City Council and public representatives about the unbearable noise levels at certain locations in the city – mainly Grafton Street, Temple Bar, Henry Street and the GPO.

Having tried a voluntary code of conduct with regards performers’ noise levels, the City Council decided it was appropriate to create a series of bylaws to help to manage the public domain more effectively. These bylaws were enacted into law a year ago with a review period that would fix any blaring omissions or further complaints.

The concerns at present mainly relate to amplification and noise levels and a general wish by many residents and workers to ban amplification which, as well as being a nuisance, drowns out acoustic buskers. I am not against busking, but, like the residents and workers in the city centre, I support this ban on amplification.

Busking bylaws. The facts.

Street dance..I think. I never stopped long enough to find out. All I know is they take up the entire street with their carry on and I don't approve.

I'm with Mannix on this one; the amplification of busking has gotten out of hand. Some of these cunts think they're playing Croker ffs. Mind you the street preachers are just as bad once they get going as well. BAN THEM ALL!!!
Noise in the city centre should be restricted only to birdsong and the plaintive cries of sweet-faced children as they go about their daily play.

I'm not a fan of fully amplified busking bands

But this is just a great song

I think the guys with the pretend dog sand sculptures and the pre-drawn chalk masterpieces should be made sing a song. Otherwise they're just insulting.

What are they up to? Rapping?
They're B Boys innit. Remember back in the day when everyone in Dublin went freestylin' mad and only wore Adidas and flipped their moves on cardboard while their mates played out beats on their boom boxes in the projects?
Oh no wait hang on, that was New York.
