and there's also two volumes of Happy Daze.

Found out yesterday that Jesus Jones are touring again this year

Has there been a quavery posh-voiced ukelele-led version of The Universal yet?

Gene had some stonkin' Smiths-manqué bangers too.

Why did Britpop fade away? - Independent.ie

the independent agrees. The article is largely nonsense (a picture of blur from 1991 and jarvis cocker because britpop) but it does make the argument that the music hasn't lasted because as a genre it was made up by the music press.

Quite literally in the case of Gay Dad.

This cunt was actually a music journo before he started this abombination of a band and belted the last nail into brit pops coffin. Basically for me it ran it's course the great bands in the "scene" (Pulp, Blur, SFA) moved on or in the case of the average bands (Oasis, OCS, Cast et al) utterly failed to move on and the "industry" tried to keep the whole thing alive a little longer by pushing all manor of piss poor copyists.

Even the Yanks tried to get in on the act

So pretty much exactly like Grunge as soon as Silverchair and Bush existed it was over.

Oh yeah and the NME gave The White Stripes a cover story that was the end of it really.

Poetic really.

I remember one angry commentator at the time describing Damon and Justine arriving at some do as if they were Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor

This clip...Damon on keyboards, and Blur played right after this

No wonder they thought they owned the place

I just remembered when I was watching it that I saw Elastica play in The Tivoli

They were ok too

Gay Dad - To Earth With Love was a deadly track. So much good stuff in it.

Suggs cashed in. Remember "Camden Town"? I was in dreamland as a Madness fanatic since I was 10 but I realise now it was shit. Terry Hall was around too. I remember Blur covered Nite Klub at the RDS and being very excited

Saw them twice, they were decent.

Not sure but I'm presuming that it was this britpop business that made Lush change their sound. At least they got this gem out of it..

when you've got male models in towels as part of your stage show it's time to re-evaluate your direction as a band

or maybe crack open some champagne and shout "WE'VE ARRIVED, BABY"

i don't really know

get outta that, that song was terrible then and is terrible now.

actually it sounds a bit better now that i listen to it again. Good for them. He still does that annoying shouty bit though.

Their rise and fall happened in the space of about 2 singles, was a bit mad really.

Ah, I love it. It perks me up. It's got a great bridge and I fucking love the vocodered "Put some Kraftwerk on" bit.

And yeah, they were gone in about 5 seconds. I think other music journos basically hated that one of them had dared to start making music himself and was going around with all sorts of intelligent opinions rather than just sucking up to them. At least that's how I remember it.

Menswear were beyond bad, come on.

At least in that Gay Dad tune they have some semblance of interesting musical ideas.

Bis inspired me to start a band in the first place when I was 14 and I used to buy their fanzine and converse by post with the grrrrl who ran it, so I know Bis and they're sound. Actually, my dad ( who isn't gay, I don't think) knows Bis as he brought me to see them at Charlie's as part of a Hope Collective daytime show and he collared them afterwards to get them to sign stuff for me. I think @pete put footage of the show up recently.
