Up on the terrace I can hear the crowd roar
Sixty Eight Guns
And in the subway I can hear them whisper
Sixty Eight Guns
Through all the raging glory of the years
We never once thought of the fears
For what we'd do when the battle cry was over .
Nothing lasts forever is all they seem to tell you when you're young

Roy Horn responding to voices
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Roy Horn, one half of the illusionist team Siegfried & Roy, was hospitalized in critical condition on a ventilator Sunday, a day after one of his tigers mauled him during their nightly show.

Las Vegas magician Roy Horn was attacked by a 600-pound white tiger named Montecore.

MGM Mirage officials said Horn, who was bitten in the neck and dragged off stage, has been able to communicate with doctors. The performer underwent surgery late Friday and Saturday at University Medical Center.

"There has been no change in his status, which quite frankly is good news," Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman said Sunday morning. "Considering the trauma he has been through, no change in his status is a good place to be."

Horn, 59, was heavily sedated but able to respond to voices and touch, MGM Mirage Resort chief executive Bobby Baldwin said.

"We are guarded, optimistic," Baldwin said late Saturday night outside the hospital. "We are pleased the news isn't worse than it is."

Feldman said it might take another day or two before doctors have a prognosis.

It was halfway during a Friday night performance at The Mirage hotel-casino that Horn appeared alone on stage with a 7-year-old, 600-pound white tiger named Montecore.

Horn told the tiger to lie down. When it refused, Horn tapped the cat on the nose with a microphone to get its attention. The animal grabbed at Horn's arm, causing the entertainer to stumble.

The tiger then lunged at Horn, who tried to beat the animal away with the microphone. Audience members said the tiger dragged Horn off the stage by the neck. The attack barely missed severing Horn's carotid artery.

Horn and longtime partner Siegfried Fischbacher have been a Las Vegas Strip staple for years, performing their magic show to sold-out crowds. The shows, with their signature white tigers and lions, are among the best known and most expensive on the Strip.

"For more than four decades, I have had the great privilege of standing at the side of this remarkable man, and I will continue to do so during this very challenging time," Fischbacher said in a statement Saturday.

Feldman said late Saturday the show was closed indefinitely. He said 267 show employees met at the Mirage hotel-casino, where hotel managers encouraged them to find new jobs.

Montecore was quarantined at the hotel, officials said. Feldman said the animal had been used in the show for several years.

Siegfried and Roy signed a lifetime contract with The Mirage in 2001. The German-born pair perform six shows a week, 44 weeks per year and have been onstage in Las Vegas for more than 35 years.

I prefer my version..

Less biting.

It was halfway during a Friday night performance in her house in Donamede when Roxy appeared in the living room with a 7-year-old, 600-pound brother Montecore.

Roxy told her brother to waltz. When he refused, Roxy tapped him on the nose with a microphone to get his attention. He grabbed at Roxy's arm, causing the child to stumble.

Montecore then lunged at Roxy, who tried to beat the boy away with the microphone. Audience members consisting of their parents and older sibblings said the brother dragged Roxy off to the kitchen by the neck.

The only inaccuracy is that my house isn't in Donaghmede.

Other than that, you seem to have mine and my brother's relationship summed up quite accurately.

Cool.

(Roxy's inner monologue is going something like this: I'm a little on edge that he got it THAT right. Who is he really?....:) )

People, you have been warned. Playing with 600-pound cats is not to be recommended, especially if you dress inappropriately wearing shirts that even Michael Flatley would consider to be, well, a bit gay.

Also, when reprimanding a 600-pound cat, don't strike it on the nose with a microphone, as this may result in you being dragged off stage by the neck, almost severing your carotid artery. Instead, rap the 600-pound cat smartly on the nose with a rolled up newspaper, saying 'No!' in a firm and insistent voice, maintaining eye contact al all times. If the 600-pound cat has soiled the carpet, rub its nose in the mess to make sure it won't happen again, and cover the puddle with lots of fresh newspaper. Be warned, however, that this may also result in you being dragged off stage by the neck, almost severing your carotid artery.
On a final note, 600-pound cats should not be kept on a diet of raw, bloody meat, as they may develop a taste for dragging you off stage by the neck, almost severing your carotid artery.

Tiger found in Harlem flat (bbc.co.uk, this morning)

A US police sniper has accomplished a daring operation in an urban housing complex - sedating and removing a 350-pound (160 kg) Bengal tiger from a New York flat.

Police were alerted to go to the flat - in a 21-storey block in the Harlem area after the animal's owner, Antoine Yates, checked into hospital with bites he said were caused by a pit bull.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a three-to-five-foot-long (1-1.5m) caiman alligator as well.

The animals have been temporarily taken to an animal care centre.

Mr Yates was meanwhile arrested in Philadelphia and police said he would be charged with "reckless endangerment".

COMMANDO-STYLE

Police spokesman Raymond Kelly said two callers had directed them to the exact address - and they had confirmed the existence of the orange-and-white tiger after cutting a hole through the door.

After evacuating the building, they trained a camera to observe the movement of the animal through a window and policeman Martin Duffy abseiled to the fifth floor with a tranquiliser gun.

"THIS IS AN ONLY-IN-NEW-YORK STORY"

"I saw him eye to eye, to say the least," Mr Duffy was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency. "He charged twice and I shot him."

Police then went into the five-bedroom flat and tied the sedated tiger to a stretcher before carrying it away.

It was then they came across the caiman - and carried it away too.

"This is an only-in-New-York story," police spokesman Kelly said.

Police suspected Mr Yates of having kept the tiger in his flat since it was a cub.

It appears to have been one of an estimated 10,000 tigers kept by private citizens in America - that is more than remain in the wild.
