best albums:

six organs of admittance - the sun awakens
howlin' rain - howlin rain
comets on fire - avatar
espers - espers 11
oakley hall - second guessing (i think this was actually released last year, not sure)
erase errata - nightlife
fireball - blessed be

it's a tie between comets and howlin rain for album of the year for me

9 Paul Weller - Hit Parade (Box)

Funny that, I consider the tracklisting on the box fairly crap but the single cd a really good introduction. But I guess the box is singles only....

According to my ipod my favourite two new albums this year are

1) The Grates: Gravity Won't Get You High
2) Larrikin Love: The Freedom Spark

Presumably the single CD is just a selection of 'key' tracks from the box? i.e. everything on the single CD is on the box

Box is disc 1 Jam, disc 2 Style Council discs 3 + 4 Weller solo. I can see most people here hating discs 2,3 and 4 but as a Weller obsessive I think nearly everything he's done has been deadly.

Loads of amazing gigs this year. So far the best ones have been

Baroness/Torche- The Bunker
Latterman- The Bunker
Boredoms- TBMC
Threads/Kakistocracy- Bohs
Sunn o)))- The Black Box
Kylesa- The Bunker
Slomatics- Anytime I seen them
Nuclear Fallout Fest night 2
The Melvins probably will top this all though hopefully

Best albums:
Melvins- Senile Animal
Kylesa- Time Will Fuse Its Worth
Latterman- We Are Still Alive
Bruce Springsteen- We Shall overcome
OM- Conference of the Birds
Jesu- Silver
Wolf Eyes- River Slaughter

Dunno if this is the 'best of the year' or anything but some stuff I remember enjoying this year:

Mahogany - Connectivity!
Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea
Metallic Falcons - Desert Doughnuts
Mission of Burma - The Obliterati
Bonnie Prince Billy - The Letting Go
OOIOO - Taiga
NOMO - New Tones
Liars - Drum's Not Dead
Bert Jansch - Black Swan
Alela Diane - Pirate's Gospel

The MP3 thing is a good idea.. I'll put up a mix from those albums later on..

Nah it's not even that, it's just the choice of songs even on disc 1 are so lazy, just the singles in the order they were released in.
