Well were they??

I wasn't going to bother for obvious Point related reasons but managed to get two free tickets.

I enjoyed it a lot more then I thought I would and couldn't beliecve the change in Rivers. In Vicar Street he spent the whole gig looking arkward and uncomfortable with very little between song banter or acknowledgement of the other band members BUT last night he was full of chat, bounding all around the stage, doing HUGE windmill moves and guitar hero posses... maybe he got one of of his special massages before the gig :D

The setlist was a bit different they included Why bother?? El Sorcho and the world has turned but left out tired of sex.. The sound was not as bad as other acts I've seen in the point but still far from perfect. There was a cool moment after Photograph when the band all left and Rivers came out at the back of the venue beside the mixing desk and played Islands in the sun acoustic.

All in all a very enjoyable gig but just didn't have the same magic feeling as Vicar Street did.

I didn't see turn or nine black alps but by all accounts I didn't miss much..

It was just over an hour long, I would have been more pissed off if I'd payed but they seem to be big believers of the "leave em wanting more" style gigs...

holy moley. I thought this gig was complete shite. sounded like a dodgy bootleg. vicar street was much better. How cool was it of them to allow a fan onstage to strum along to the sweater song?!

when u say quietest point gig ever do you mean poorly attended or low volume?

dont worry there was more than two from the new one, really enjoyed this but couldnt help but feel awful bout missing them in vicar st.
quietest point gig ive ever been to.

Wrong! It was better than Vicar St by miles for the reasons you gave. Rivers Cuomo was playing like a legend and really enjoying it. Unlike the Vicar St gig. The new songs were fucking woeful bad, thats just coz the new album is complete shit, but all of the songs off the other albums were fuckin great! It fuckin Rocked! Especially bringing up the fan onstage to play the sweater song. .|..| on

yea i totally agree! i thought it was light years better than the vicar street gig. when i got my tickets i didnt think it would be anywhere near as good as vicar street but it was really deadly! as was said, the difference between Rivers in vicar street and Rivers last night was unreal!! maybe without the glasses he is a rock hero and with them he is a shy mumbly nerd?!
el scorcho was a deadly surprise and Island in the sun acoustic other end of the venue was, very stadium rock ala the scorpions!, but deadly! (even though it took most of us half the song to realise that he wasnt just playing it from behind the stage and he was in fact down the back!)
woud love to have heard the world has turned... and/or tired of sex but it was totally fantastic :)

=w= = .|..|

Anyone else annoyed by the absence of the giant shining Weezer =W= in the background.

I spent the whole gig waiting for it to come down stonehendge style but alas it never appeared.

Best I've ever seen them...

Rivers on the Happy pills...

Spent most of the show down the back waiting for a late friend,
Imagine my delight when rivers appeared next to me with an acoustic guitar

Legendary moment I will never forget

...MB '05 Tour: Day 77: Dublin, Ireland - The Point
Todays show was at the Point, a cavernous former warehouse that became a rock venue years back, located in the once derelict now booming docklands area of the city, where high tech businesses are taking root as fast as the office space can be built to house them. The Point is a much bigger venue than the cozy Vicar Street was a few months back when weezer first visited Dublin, so the challenge was on to make it exciting and fun for a much larger group of fans.

First up was Turn, who are a Dublin band who are getting some attention these days, and with good reason. Then we got another dose of the Nine Black Alps brand of rock fury, which got the crowd primed for the main attraction. As this was only the second ever visit by weezer to Ireland, the majority of people in the audience had never seen them live before. On the other hand, it seems that pretty much eveyone who had seen them at Vicar Street showed up tonight for a second dose of the weez.

And a sweet second dose it was, with the band continuing to stretch the boundaries, stepping a little farther into once unthinkable territory every night! The sense of real teamwork and genuine fun has been growing all summer, and this is now a weezer that really has never been seen before. Tonight a new milestone was reached, as weezer history was made with something never before done at a weez show, though I'll leave it to the fan comments for the details...

Special guest tonight was Cait formerly of The Pogues, now of the Radiators. Cait is so damn cool its not even funny.

Big ups to local lad Sherry for helping out tonight! And a premium club-level shout out to 'Louweezer' + friend, longtime Irish supporters! A pleasure to finally meet up in person.

fan reactions! (more in the comments section)

"...I just got back from the weezer gig in the point in dublin and what an unbelievable show! they were much more energetic on stage then usual, think rivers must've been on something, and the part where they got someone from the audience to play on undone is something ive never seen weezer do in the 3 times ive seen them (las vegas being the most recent show after tonight). The accoustic island in the sun, where rivers went to the opposite end of the arena, was great as well. pat, brian and scott were firing on all cylinders too! pat's guitar solo on photograph was cool. it was nice to hear el scorcho in there too...after the show a bunch of us got to meet rivers and pat at the window of their dressing room just before we got chased away by security guards. They shook our hands and signed are ticket stubs. it was amazing and i wont soon forget it. thanks lads, come back soon" ---phil, clontarf

"...This gig was absolutely amazing! In Vicar Street a few months ago, I got the impression the guys were somewhat smothered by the size of the venue but tonight at the Point was completely stellar. The swapping around of vocal duties! The instrumental Death and Destruction! Rivers on drums! The invisible encore! That lucky lucky lucky lucky guy who got to go on stage to play Undone and made me wish I'd skipped work to show up ten hours early for the gig! The whole bloody thing! This time we got a really charismatic, appreciative band who worked completely off the huge energy being generated by the crowd. My excitement had been peaking since earlier in the day when Brian came into the guitar store I work in (Perfect Pitch). I was too timid to say hi or anything but my regrets about this have been replaced by my joy at what was truly a faith edifying experience. Rocking the Bitches and Rocking Like Sons of Bitches Since 1994! And many more to come we all hope! Best moment: when we took overrr the first verse of El Scorcho, allowing Rivers to join in on the chorus! Thank you, thank you, thank you." ---Stephen K., Dublin

"...Absolutely mind blowing show in the Point last night. It was my first time to see the Weez (after missing the Vicar Street gig!) and I didn't know what to expect. But WOW! The second they opened with "Don't Let Go" the crowd just surged forwards! It was an atmosphere like no other. They played through all the classics - "Buddy Holly", "El Scorcho", "Say It Ain't So" - everything we could've hoped for. Highlights of the night - "My Name is Jonas" (the whole crowd just went crazy!), "The Sweater Song" (with a shell shocked audience member on the guitar), and of course "Island In the Sun" (won't ruin the surprise for those yet to go see the band!)." ---Stephen M.

ill never forget the gig in Vicar St. as it was my first time seeing them, and they played a great set with great sound but The Gig in the Point was the Weezer i was wishing for at Vicar Street. So much different. Like 2 completely different gigs.

From the get go Rivers was making rock signs, shouting "Good job" and "nice job Ireland" and wielding his guitar in the air during the slightest hint of a solo. He seemed to crave attention, completely opposite to Vicar St. even when he played drums for Photograph he was wielding the sticks in the air and waving to the crowd. I was over Brians side and he kept coming over to us during instrumental parts.

played over half the blue album, was sure they would finish on hash pipe so was delighted when they stayed on and played Surf Wax America, rivers on keys for 2songs aswell.

why bother was sang by Brian while rivers played keys, fall together was sang by scott, photograph sang by Pat who played some ace guitar noodling at the end. The instrumental death and destruction was actually better without words.

El scorcho was like a big karaoke, rivers sang but didnt play guitar, and for Beverly Hills he had his Peter Frampton tube thingy for the solo.this performance in Vicar Street would have been too good to be true

Setlist in no particular order:

Dont Let Go
My Name Is Jonas
Perfect Situation
Say It Aint So
Why Bother (Brian on Vocals)
Peace
Death and Destruction (Instrumental)
Buddy Holly
No One Else
We Are All on Drugs
El Scorcho
Fall Together (Scott on Vocals)
Beverly Hills
Photograph (Pat on Vocals)

Encore:
Island in The Sun (solo acoustic)
Undone The Sweater
Hash Pipe
Surf Wax America

i was well pleased 8 more songs i hadnt seen before

i give it.|..| .|..| .|..| .|..| out of .|..| .|..| .|..| .|..| .|..|

I thought it was fuckin' unreal!
But then again, I wasn't at Vicar St. and have been waiting to see em for years.

I was right up near the front and it was pretty insane up there.
Nine Black Alps and Turn were pretty shite though.

Highlights: My Name Is Jonas, Say It Ain't So, No One Else, El Scorcho and Surf Wax America.

The guy that got up and played Undone with 'em was Sherry, who's a friend of a friend.
Was talking to him after it, and he was all mad-cool about it! Fucks sake!

Island In The Sun with Rivers out on that kinda sound-ramp thingy was deadly too.
Would've maybe preferred Butterfly or something, but it was still deadly.
